A stash of fifth-century gold coins worth millions has been found buried in a pot under an Italian theatre. Builders demolishing the former Cressoni theatre in Como were stunned to discover the cache last Wednesday. The Roman coins will be examined and dated before ending up in a museum, officials said.

Hundreds of ancient Roman gold coins have been discovered on the site of an old theatre in Como in northern Italy, the Ministry of Culture said. The coins date back to the end of the Roman Empire in the 5th century and were found in a kind of stone urn in the Cressoni theatre basement, not far from the site of the ancient city of Novum Comum.    According to Italian media, the coins could be worth millions of euros.   "We do not yet know in detail the historical and cultural significance of this discovery but this area is a real...

hi, wondering what the most economical way to go is for buying bulk contemporary usa silver dollars. i got quoted a price of $20/silverdollar at a local jewelry store, quantity 100, immediate inventory. apparently a common unit of purchase is a 100 silver dollar bag. i would request the dollars be placed in plastic containers. very important: the plastic containers must not interact with the copper in the coins to produce a green patina. the reason for storage in rolls is to permit easy placement into flat style safety deposit boxes. should i go with 1, 2, 3, or more...

The mysterious haul of gold coins discovered by a Northern California couple while out walking their dog – and valued at $10 million – may well be a previously undiscovered bounty that an employee of the San Francisco Mint was convicted of stealing in 1901. The couple, who haven’t been named, stumbled across the haul of 1,427 rare, mint-condition gold coins, nearly all dating from 1847 to 1894, buried in the shadow of an old tree on their Gold Country property in February 2013. The face value of the Saddle Ridge Hoard, as they’ve called it, added up to about...

I have a rare coin, specifically a 1 Quetzel, Guatamala 1925 in XF condition. I have priced things a little under the competition and am not doing the Ebay way, but rather non-traditional ways to sell it, such as Craigslist. Craigslist has local, focused areas, and so I put the ad in the Manhattan, Financial District. But, I don't know for such a coin (know that there are only 3000 of this coin in existence) what the best market would be. Anyone have any advice? I was thinking of moving the ad to Naples, FL as well. Craigslist only allows...

Today, the U.S. Treasury released a $1 coin commemorating former President James Buchanan. And people aren't happy about it. To understand why, some background is helpful. In 2007, thanks to a bill promoted by then-Senator John Sununu of New Hampshire, the Treasury began minting $1 coins with the likenesses of former Presidents, starting with George Washington. The coins -- which have been appearing ever since, featuring a new President every three months -- are meant to improve use and circulation of America's dollar coins, which are often seen as an awkward misfit among currency, neither fish nor fowl. Sununu's initiative...
