Here are (what I like to call) “snapshots” of the Chinese New Year celebrations in February 2019. The Chinese use a lunar calendar, and the New Year started on 5FEB19, and started the week-long celebration. This celebration is profoundly different than anything experienced in the West. It is a time of family and friends. It is a time of crazed dancing, and orgy of food, and prolonged heavy drinking. The Fabius-Pompey Central School District is closing Thursday and Friday as a precaution after a female high school student who recently traveled to Mexico tested positive for swine flu. The student lives in Cortland County and is one of three possible human swine flu cases reported earlier this week by the Cortland Health Department. The state Health Department announced Wednesday preliminary tests showed the high school student has the illness. Final confirmation is expected from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today .
