Congresswoman Maxine Waters may have handed Derek Chauvin's defense grounds for appeal and the turning over of any guilty verdict. Speaking after the jury was sent out on Monday afternoon, Chauvin's attorney Eric Nelson once again made a bid to have the case against his client thrown out on grounds that there was no way the jury could be untainted by the excessive publicity surrounding the case. 'Now that we have US representatives threatening acts of violence in relation to this trial it’s frankly mind-blowing,' Nelson said.

Judge Peter Cahill, who is presiding over the case involving the death of George Floyd, said on Monday that remarks made by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) over the weekend could lead to the “whole trial being overturned” on appeal.“And it is so pervasive that it is I just don’t know how this jury it can really be said to be that they are free from the taint of this,” the lawyer representing Derek Chauvin said. “And now that we have U.S. representatives, threatening acts of violence in relation to the specific case, it’s mind boggling to me, judge.”

The Minneapolis City Council, in an unbelievable move, given the powder keg on their doorstep, voted 11-1 to oppose the use of tear gas and other non-lethal munitions in response to civil disorder. It would be fair to wonder if someone dropped these 11 elected leaders on their heads as children. In the last 48 hours, we have had a sitting member of Congress, Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), inciting violence if former officer Derek Chauvin is convicted of murder, and two National Guardsman injured in a drive-by shooting. The Chauvin trial is in closing arguments, and the jury is expected...

The NBA has instructed teams to be vigilant about the impact of a potential verdict this week in the Derek Chauvin trial for the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, including the possibility of game postponements, sources told ESPN. The looming specter of possible protests, civil unrest and team reactions in the aftermath of a verdict has the league office preparing for the prospect that a night or two of league games could be postponed this week, sources said. Closing arguments are expected Monday in the case against Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who faces charges of second-degree murder,...
