There is no challenge greater than the defense of our nation and our values. The men and women of our military โ-โ have signed up at a time when our troops face an ever-increasing load. Fighting a resurgent Taliban. Targeting al Qaeda. Persevering in the deserts and cities of Iraq. Training foreign militaries. Delivering humanitarian relief. In this young century, our military has answered when called, even as that call has come too often. Through their commitment, their capability, and their courage they have done us all proud. But we need to ease the burden on our troops, while meeting...

"Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan (front, 2nd R), whose son Casey was killed during combat in Iraq in April 2004, speaks at a candlelight vigil in the village of Daechoori in Pyongtaek, where South Korea's defence ministry had fenced and demolished houses to make way for the expansion of a U.S. base, about 80 km (50 miles) south of Seoul, November 20, 2006. A delegation of U.S. peace and social justice activists led by Sheehan arrived in Seoul on Sunday for a six-day visit to object to the expansion of Camp Humphrey, the U.S. military base in Pyongtaek and to...

CRAWFORD, Texas - With a rally on their campsite Saturday, about 100 war protesters ended their monthlong vigil near the Western White House but planned to move it close to the White House. Many group members are heading next week to Washington, D.C., for a two-week demonstration called "Camp Democracy." "We wanted to try to build momentum and needed something to move the focus back to Washington," said retired Army Col. Ann Wright, who resigned as a U.S. diplomat in 2003 to protest the war with Iraq. Cindy Sheehan, whose oldest son Casey died in Iraq in 2004, started the...

Friday's article "Sheehan offers refuge to war deserters" contains a couple of inaccuracies. While war protester Cindy Sheehan may claim she is fasting, her self-acknowledged fasting diet of high-calorie Jamba Juice smoothies and vanilla ice cream is an insult to those such as Bobby Sands, who fasted to death, who take such things seriously. The other inaccuracy is in regard to the article's claim that Rep. Jim McDermott served in Vietnam. He did not. Rep. McDermott spent his brief years in the Navy in Long Beach, Calif., an ocean away from hostilities, as a psychiatrist. Honorable service, no doubt, but he...

I have camped out in front of George Bush's ranch, marched in rallies, lobbied Congress, gone to jail, and much more to stop the devastating war in Iraq and bring our troops home. Now it's time to do more. Along with other activists and the peace groups Gold Star Families for Peace and CODEPINK, I will be starting an open-ended hunger strike, called Troops Home Fast, on July 4 th. We will start the fast in Washington DC, in front of the White House, and then move to Camp Casey (outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas) in mid-August. We hope...

Vienna - One of American's best-known peace activists Cindy Sheehan called on Monday for the removal of US President George W Bush from office, saying he should be called to account for the war in Iraq. Sheehan was speaking at a press conference in Vienna, where her presence is expected to be a focal point of protest against Bush's visit Tuesday evening and Wednesday for an EU-US summit. A withdrawal of US forces from Iraq would put an end to the violence there, said Sheehan, who lost a son in the Iraq war. Last August she gained national fame by...

While millions of the world's Christian's spent Good Friday reaffirming their belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ by somberly observing the Stations of the Cross rite commemorating his crucifixion as an act of faith, anti-American activist Cindy Sheehan, who renounced her Catholic faith and belief in Christ in the wake of the combat death in Iraq two years ago this month of her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, paraded through Crawford, Texas yesterday carrying a large wooden cross on her shoulder as part of an anti-Iraq war protest targeting President Bush in his home town.Sheehan, who has earned a...

(02-09) 11:31 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, who has criticized President Bush and other elected officials for their war support since her son was killed in Iraq, said today that she won't run for office against U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein. "I felt that putting pressure on her from the outside would be more effective than working from the inside," said Sheehan, 48, of Berkeley during a morning press conference.

It follows like the night the day. From Buzzflash: What Really Happened at the State of the Union by Cindy Sheehan February 1 , 2006 Dear Friends, As most of you have probably heard, I was arrested before the State of the Union Address tonight. I am speechless with fury at what happened and with grief over what we have lost in our country. There have been lies from the police and distortions by the press. (Shocker) So this is what really happened: This afternoon at the People's State of the Union Address in DC where I was joined by Congresspersons...

CARACAS (AFP) - Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas, where she hailed Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez. "I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling," said Sheehan, who gained notoriety when she camped outside US President George W. Bush's ranch last year to protest the Iraq war. She said she hoped to meet Chavez later in the week.

It was hard to feel blessed today as I sat at Casey's grave here in Vacaville, California. Sure, a lot of good things have happened in my sphere of influence this year, but the blessings are always hampered by the reason for the blessings. If Casey had not been killed in Iraq in George's imperialistic war for power and wealth, I wouldn't be on this path. I wish to God I weren't on this path. But I am, so here are the blessings I am thankful for this year. The main blessings that I can thankfully still count are my...

After spending scorching August days with hundreds of war protesters at her makeshift camp near President Bush's Crawford ranch, Cindy Sheehan slipped away each night to her tent or RV for a few quiet moments on her laptop... Now those journal entries are in her book, "Not One More Mother's Child," to be released Wednesday. The paperback also contains some of her speeches to peace groups earlier this year, letters to politicians and writings since leaving Crawford.

Mother Sheehan jumps the shark, at (where else?) MichaelMoore.com. (Hat tip: protein wisdom.) I don't care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink. I don't care if a human being is Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don't care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. The only way...
