Friday's article "Sheehan offers refuge to war deserters" contains a couple of inaccuracies. While war protester Cindy Sheehan may claim she is fasting, her self-acknowledged fasting diet of high-calorie Jamba Juice smoothies and vanilla ice cream is an insult to those such as Bobby Sands, who fasted to death, who take such things seriously.
The other inaccuracy is in regard to the article's claim that Rep. Jim McDermott served in Vietnam. He did not. Rep. McDermott spent his brief years in the Navy in Long Beach, Calif., an ocean away from hostilities, as a psychiatrist. Honorable service, no doubt, but he is not a Vietnam veteran.
It would also help readers to make an informed judgment if the article included background reporting on the far left politics of Veterans for Peace, such as their support for the communist governments of Fidel Castro and the Sandinistas, as well as their aid to Saddam's government pre-war.

From now on, they'll call it "Cindying" or "slowing"--you still take in food, you just chew slower.
Good letter.
That's freepin awesome!
I usually GAIN weight when I go to Jamba Juice...
Amazing that it got published...
Love it! You should charge in keeping them honest. ;)
Gee Kristinn, around here we call what SINdy is doing dieting.....Almost all of my friend have tried similar fasts in the past year. Suppose she'll write a diet book next?
I thought "Cindying" was the ability to turn on the waterworks whenever a camera is near.
FreepinFantastic, Kristinn!
That was a verbal ass kick'n.
They published that? LOL! Good job!
Kristinn Taylor's letter is excellent.
This nation needs more Kristinns.
Who demanded that Kristinn tell him his name?
I had a good talk with the P-I's ombudsman on Friday about the article. They made an online correction to the McDermott gaffe. We also had a good discussion on what constitutes a fast these days.
Thanks, but that's like saying the country needs more boys named Sue. We need more Georges and Jims, LOL!
