We received mail address to our address addressed to someone who never lived here. After doing some checking and finding it was not a neighbor we opened the envelope. Inside was a bank debit card along with information about an account that had been opened. We contacted the bank. They indicated there is a lot of fraud going on. They closed the account and suggested that we contact the credit bureaus and the state unemployment office and our local police department. Free checking is going the way of the free checked bag. Only 45% of non-interest bank checking accounts are free, down from 65% in 2010 and 76% two years ago, according to a survey released Monday by Bankrate.com.
