The Florida Gators captured the College World Series title on Sunday night with a 6–1 win over the LSU Tigers to sweep the best-of-three series. Florida scored its first two runs in the bottom of first and second inning before holding the lead. LSU scored its first run in the seventh inning but also lost a run due to an interference call on a Tigers base runner. LSU threatened in the eighth inning but failed to score. Florida added four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the victory.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Danny Flores, who played the saxophone and shouted the word "tequila!" in the 1950s hit song "Tequila!", has died. He was 77. Flores, who lived in Westminster, died Tuesday at Huntington Beach Hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Kathleen Curran. He died of complications from pneumonia, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported. The man sometimes called the "godfather of Latin rock" was born in Santa Paula but grew up in Long Beach. Powered by individual medalist Jonathan Moore's 12-under performance over the four-round tournament, the Oklahoma State Cowboys won the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship on Saturday afternoon. The tournament, held at Crosswater Club, was hosted by the University of Portland.
