Charles Louis “Sonny Boy” Saunders lost his life when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and the 18-year-old’s body has finally arrived at his hometown of Winnie, Texas, where he will be laid to rest 80 years to the day after he died serving his country. KTRK in Winnie Texas reported on Saunder’s amazing journey home: Last week, the body of Navy Seaman 2nd Class Charles L. Saunders arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office then escorted the hero’s body to Winnie. The attack on USS Oklahoma resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen,...

Chambers County election officials have executed an emergency protocol to remove all electronic voting machines available during early voting until a software update can be completed to correct problems experienced by straight-ticket voters. Chambers County Clerk Heather Hawthorne told Breitbart Texas Tuesday morning that all electronic voting was temporarily halted until her office completes a “software update” on ES&S machines that otherwise “omit one race” when a straight ticket option is selected for either major party. The Texas 14th Court of Appeals race was reported to be the contest in which voters commonly experienced the glitch. Hawthorne explained that she...

Trucks hauling everything from cars to produce use Southeast Texas roads to deliver their goods, and when a proposed Interstate 69/Trans Texas Corridor is completed, local drivers could see even more of them, local transportation officials said. The proposed I-69 corridor stretches from Michigan down to Texas. Once in Texas, the corridor goes about 650 miles from Texarkana to Brownsville and Laredo and includes separate lanes for cars and semis and areas for trains and utilities. It doesn't cut through Beaumont, but local arteries like U.S. 69 and Interstate 10 would connect to it. Travelers and truckers just need to...

Four longtime officeholders in Chambers County bolt Democrats, join regional trend ANAHUAC - Chambers County has joined other fast-growing suburban counties where Republicans are no longer swimming against the tide to win a county office. In fact, Republican contenders for Chambers County offices, which officials said started as a small "wave" in the late '90s, turned into a tidal wave within the past month as four more longtime Democratic officeholders defected to the other side. The four are among the county's more powerful elected officials: the county judge, district clerk, county attorney and county treasurer. They are responding to an...

In response to a posting by Flyer on 02/03/03.... As I see it, a Police Officer that is "fishing" may drive any vehicle with or without emergency lights. Their oath to protect and serve makes them an Officer not the vehicle. No law says, "thou shalt not drive in someone's blind spot", so that doesn't sound so awful to me. Officer's have the right to ask you to step to the rear of the vehicle for their safety and yours. You mentioned "two prior arrests". You failed to mention the nature of those arrest. Care to explain those arrests? Maybe...
  • Chambers County (Texas) Narcotics Task Force Goes Fishing

Chambers County Narcotics Task Force Goes Fishing This goes under my category of "The traffic stop as the primary law enforcement tool." Some may classify this as good pro-active policing. I call it a fishing expedition.I am a contract delivery driver. I return to passengers luggage that has been lost by various airlines. My range is a wide swath of southeast Texas. When Nacogdoches became the center of attention for the recovery of the shuttle Columbia, I knew I could expect to be heading that way. I received the first such call about 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, February 2.Northbound on...
