The Carbondale Police Department says around 11:38 p.m., officers were on patrol in the 700 block of North Robert A. Stalls Street when they determined gunshots were being fired. Dozens of homes have been evacuated and a 5-mile stretch of Colorado 82 in western Colorado has been closed due to heavy smoke from a brush fire. As expected, there was an anti-war, anti-America protest on the main drag of this university town. Perhaps less expected was the large turnout on the opposite side of the street, literally and figuratively. The patchouli and hippie contingent were their usual drum-banging, bug dancing selves shouting their slogans of "No blood for oil" and "War is the problem, not the answer."
