    The California Republican Assembly, the state's oldest and largest Republican volunteer organization, has formally endorsed Ted Cruz for president. Cruz received the necessary two-thirds of the vote at the statewide convention on the first ballot, something that has not been done in 20 years. The impressive accomplishment is due to Cruz's record as a "proven, consistent conservative," said CRA President Tom Hudson. While Republican assemblies in many states are not particularly influential, the CRA is a powerhouse conservative institution hailed by Ronald Reagan as the "conscience of the Republican Party."
