Hours after former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens released a video saying he would hunt members of the Republican party who he considered not conservative enough, the Republican floor leader of the Missouri state Senate said he had contacted law enforcement. “We have been in contact with the Missouri Highway Patrol and hope that former Gov Greitens finds the help he needs,” Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden posted on Twitter Monday. “Anyone with multiple accusations of abuse toward women and children should probably steer clear of this rhetoric.”

A Cabinet minister was branded 'abhorrent' today after saying that the state should not provide limitless support to benefits claimants with large families. Campaigners reacted with fury after the Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt savaged the policy of sizeable handouts totalling more than the average household earns. Mr Hunt claimed that the Government's proposed cap on benefits reflected the need for claimants to 'take responsibility' for their children.

Anti-Poverty campaigner Bob Geldof is the surprise new entry into The Sunday Times list of Ireland's Richest Entertainers, new figures showed today. The former lead singer of the 1970s band The Boomtown Rats takes fifth place in the table, sitting on top of a fortune worth €51m. According to compilers of The Sunday Times Rich List 2006, his shares in his television production company Ten Alps have soared and he also has a €29m stake in reality TV production firm Castaway Productions. Anti-war protesters crammed on to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge last night to prevent a Royal Navy vessel from leaving port. Over 100 demonstrators chanted anti-Bush and Blair songs, draped banners over the landmark and set off flares and sirens as they braved the elements to stop HMS Example from leaving the Tyne. However, no attempt was made by the Navy to move the vessel, and there was little activity from HMS Calliope, where it is docked. The event marked a weekend of demos in the North-East which included a picket outside Durham North-West MP and Chief Whip Hilary Armstrong's home....
