Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera quit his position at Yale University after the Ivy League school announced it would remove the name of a pro-slavery lawmaker from one of its residential colleges. Not everyone is happy about Yale’s decision to rename Calhoun College from a slaveowner and white supremacist to a feminist icon, Rear Adm. Grace Murray Hopper. The loudest outcry comes not from anyone wishing to preserve history, but from the Yale Women’s Center, which claims that choosing a white woman ignores Yale’s history of slavery and perpetuates white supremacy. In a tweet Sunday morning, Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera said he resigned from his position as an associate fellow of Calhoun College, a day after Yale announced that it would rename the college in honor of Grace Hopper GRD ’34.

Calhoun College’s name could still be changed, according to a message sent out Monday by Yale University President Peter Salovey. With the formation of a Committee to Establish Principles on Renaming, the door appears to be open to reconsidering the Yale Corporation’s decision not to rename the residential college, despite widespread anger among Yale students, alumni and faculty during the last academic year.

A Yale University employee is out of a job, and the school is out a window, after he used a broomstick to smash a stained-glass window he complained was racist. Until recently, Thomas Menafee worked as a dishwasher for Yale.
