APTOS—The family of the 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death on the Aptos High School campus in August has filed a claim against Pajaro Valley Unified School District, alleging that the district was negligent in ending the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, and in not adequately monitoring the two students responsible for the attack.

On November 1, 2021, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), in an unusual move, granted certiorari (agreed to hear the arguments) before judgment in a case challenging the new Texas abortion law, known as S.B. 8. On December 10, extremely fast for SCOTUS, they delivered an opinion. The Court granted certiorari before judgment in this case to determine whether, under our precedents, certain abortion providers can pursue a pre-enforcement challenge to a recently enacted Texas statute. We conclude that such an action is permissible against some of the named defendants but not others. In the opinion, SCOTUS said neither...

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (CNS) -- A resident grabbed a gun and opened fire on two men taking part in a predawn home-invasion robbery along with four other accomplices in Oceanside today, killing one of them, authorities said. The man, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene. Meanwhile, other...

Lake Tahoe’s water level dropped to a four-year low on Tuesday as gusty winds and the impacts of California’s devastating drought hit the popular tourist destination. After days of high winds increased evaporation rates, water levels fell to the basin’s natural rim for the first time since 2017, the end of the state’s last drought. The lake normally sits above the rim, which allows for water to flow into the Truckee River. Levels will probably continue to drop, receding below the rim this week, sooner than expected. Though the lake’s water levels have fallen to this point several times in...

....The national guard has been deployed to hospitals in rural north and central California, where short-staffed hospitals have been overwhelmed with coronavirus patients – exposing stark disparities within the most populous US state. Although California has the lowest coronavirus case rate in the country, its agricultural heartland in the Central Valley and its sparse, rural north have case rates that are three or four times higher. National guard medical teams have been deployed to several hospitals in the valley’s Bakersfield and Kern counties, and to two hospitals in Shasta county in the far north.... ....In Shasta, which has one of...

Top military officials on Tuesday testified that they assessed that the U.S. should maintain a presence of at least 2,500 troops in Afghanistan, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin admitting that their input was "received" by President Biden, despite Biden's claims to the contrary. Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, and head of U.S. Central Command Gen. Kenneth McKenzie appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday for a public hearing on the Biden administration's chaotic military withdrawal from Afghanistan. McKenzie and Milley both testified that they recommended maintaining a presence of U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

So Larry Elder is a white supremacist (at least in the eyes of the left). So argued a Los Angeles Times columnist, Jean Guerrero, on CNN as Brian "journalists are the real heroes" Stelter's smug visage nodded along. These denizens of the left all but celebrated when a white woman in a gorilla mask attacked Elder in a transparently racist attack. The same Los Angeles Times, when forced to cover the incident, ran a deceptive headline that attempted to pin the blame on Elder that read, "LAPD is investigating altercation involving Larry Elder at Venice homeless encampment." If only Elder...

A brave mother fought off a mountain lion — with her bare hands — as it savagely attacked her 5-year-old son outside their California home last week, authorities said Saturday. The unnamed woman punched the 65-pound wild animal and wrestled it away from her child in the front yard of the family’s house in Calabasas on Thursday, authorities said. The mountain lion had dragged the child “about 45 yards” across the front lawn in the wild attack, said Capt. Patrick Foy, a spokesman with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

(CNN)As polls have tightened dramatically in recent weeks in the effort to recall Gavin Newsom, the Democratic California governor and his allies have been warning of doomsday scenarios if he is ousted on September 14 and replaced by a conservative Republican bent on unraveling the state's progressive agenda. But as some of the major candidates vying to replace Newsom met for a debate in Sacramento Wednesday night -- where they portrayed him as ill-equipped to handle the state's many crises -- there are some early signs that rank-and-file Democrats aren't wasting time returning their vote-by-mail ballots in their effort to...

Gavin Newsom remains popular but Democrats appear far less likely than Republicans to vote in the election When Gavin Newsom first elected governor of California in 2018, he captured a greater share of the vote than any other Democrat in state history. And he has remained broadly popular, despite a global pandemic, economic catastrophe, and a scandalously ill-timed visit to the Michelin-starred restaurant the French Laundry.

More than 42,000 Californians have been forced to flee their homes as nine large wildfires continue to burn out of control in the northern part of the state, prompting Gov. Gavin Newsom to request a major disaster declaration from President Biden. The Caldor Fire, which has scorched 106,562 acres, is the top firefighting priority in the nation, according to Chief Thom Porter of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (Cal Fire). Officials fear the fire, which is just 5% contained, may push its way into the populated Lake Tahoe Basin, and they warned all Californians to be ready...

San Francisco authorities are calling on the public to help identify a woman who has allegedly fed wild coyotes in the city, an act that can lead the animals to lose their fear of humans. The image was captured on a camera on Bernal Hill and shows a woman with a platter of meat sitting on the ground as she feeds a coyote. “People need to stop feeding wild animals” said Virginia Donohue, executive director of the agency, in a statement. “Continuing to defy the law — and common sense — will lead to a person getting hurt and an...

Aww, you look so sad, but be honest, did you really think this was going to just go away? Just two days after Emmanuel Macron in Paris shocked the world with mandatory vaccinations, here in California they’ve suddenly decided to force masks on people again. Coincidence? Sure it is, completely unrelated, don’t worry about it. Now, about those mandatory vaccinations. At this rate, and from everything coming across my desk from back channels, mandatory vaccinations in America are probably around 4-6 weeks away. The Delta variant is the trump card, pun intended, they needed to make all this work, and...
