  • Mitch Daniels and Mitt Romney both want to run in 2012, but face health care roadblock

    03/04/2011 9:57:47 AM PST · by The Doctor · 24 replies
What do Mitt Romney and Mitch Daniels have in common? Both are Republican governors who have presidential aspirations, and they are making the rounds on political talk shows to keep a high profile. Both men also face a common roadblock: Both have to explain how they can oppose ObamaCare while implementing programs in their state that are awfully close to the rules of Obama’s programs.
  • 59% of seniors have an unfavorable view of Obamacare

According to a poll released by Kaiser, 59% of seniors have an unfavorable view of ObamaCare. This is about on par with Rasmussen’s numbers, and considering the conservative nature of the demographic, this is not especially surprising. The catch? The HHS has been spending millions on television ads to promote the health care law to seniors. Poll results like these show that the ad campaign has failed, and seniors are not budging on their discontent with the law.
  • DC judge rules in favor of ObamaCare

The split opinion of judges all over the country continue. D.C. Federal District Judge Gladys Kessler has ruled the health care law to be constitutional. In her ruling, Kessler says: First, this Court agrees with the two other district courts which have ruled that the individuals subject to § 1501’s mandate provision are either present or future participants in the national health care market. See Liberty Univ., 2010 WL 4860299, at *15 (“Nearly everyone will require health care services at some point in their lifetimes, and it is not always possible to predict when one will be afflicted by illness...
  • IRS requests $119 million to enforce health care rules

So on top of the news that the IRS is seeking to hire 16,500 new employees to enforce the new rules of the health care law, the agency has now announced that they are seeking $119 million to finance not only this hiring, but the enforcement of the new rules. Included in this request is the funding to enforce the 1099 rule, which may be obsolete once Congress gets through with it. However, there are many other charges, such as $23 million to help taxpayers understand the new law, and $11.5 million to implement the tanning tax, for government officials...
  • Drug innovation stifled by ObamaCare?

While it is common knowledge that the health care industry is not happy with the rules and regulations of the health care law, the National Review brings up this question: Will the implementation of ObamaCare stifle the creation of new drugs and treatments? To answer this question, the National Review observes that Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) made a deal with the Obama Administration that they would be able to market their drugs without generic competition for 12 years. The administration reneged on that deal and reduced the 12 years to 7 years. And there are many more...

Hitting Malpass, Mysteriously (Updated)A CapTon commenter posted a link to this video that attacks Republican US Senate hopeful David Malpass for his connection to Bear Sterns, one of the big Wall Street banks that received a taxpayer-funded bailout and has been the object of considerable populist-driven anger ever since. It’s a pretty straightforward hit, except for the very end, where whoever made it has tacked on the memorable endorsement of Bruce Blakeman’s dog that was used in an ad for his master’s very short-lived 2009 NYC mayoral run. Blakeman is, of course, one of Malpass’ GOP primary opponents. I checked...

Someone (who, incidentally, won't tell me who he or she is) is passing around the below video, which purports to lump GOP Senate hopeful David Malpass in with the likes of Enron's Ken Lay. It also features a quick flash from an old commercial by a current rival of Malpass, Bruce Blakeman. Not featured is another GOP challenger to incumbent Sen. Kirsten...

Attention Ryan Seacrest: This DioGuardi wants to go to Washington – not Hollywood. Former Congressman Joe DioGuardi, better known these days as the father of “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, launched Tuesday a bid to become the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in New York. Mr. DioGuardi, who represented suburban Westchester County in the House of Representatives for two terms in the 1980s, appears to be getting plenty of media attention

DioGuardi Gets Hometown SupportBy Elizabeth Benjamin Former Westchester Rep. Joe DioGuardi has locked up the support of his hometown party organization as the jockeying for position among would-be GOP challengers to Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand intensifies, the DN's Glenn Blain reports. Westchester Republican Chairman Doug Colety said his committee will formally announce its endorsement of DioGuardi as early as next week. The decision was made at a committee meeting about a week ago. "We want to give him the hometown support and a very strong kickoff,” DioGuardi said. DioGuardi, who turns 70 this year, is a certified public accountant and...

NEW YORK, NY Re-Tweet this article Former Congressman Joe DioGuardi, president and chairman of Truth In Government, is calling for “accountability and action” after the Christmas Day failed bombing attempt on Flight 253. DioGuardi strongly urged President Obama to take swifter action to fire top officials such as Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano, CIA Director Leon Panetta, or others at the top of the intelligence chain of command. “This is an egregious failure that must be addressed now,” DioGuardi said. In a series of video clips, DioGuardi employs a risk-management perspective to national security issues, specifically the need to identify...

Former Reagan Justice Department official David Rivkin appeared live on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” to discuss increased airport profiling measures in the wake of the Christmas Day attempted terrorist bombing of Flight 253 to Detroit. “It’s a reasonable way to go …. with profiling, let’s leave aside political correctness,” Rivkin told host Chris Matthews. “It’s a way of marshaling scarce resources to manage a large threat.” The Transportation Security Administration has increased inbound flight screening measures in 14 foreign countries of origin including: Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Libya, Pakistan and Nigeria. Rivkin noted that the real question was...

Noted commentator and former associate White House counsel David Rivkin, appearing on Wolf Blitzer’s CNN newscast on Jan.4, criticized the Obama Administration for holding alleged Nigerian terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as a criminal suspect rather than interrogating him as a captured enemy combatant. “The safety of the American people has been sacrificed on the altar of political correctness, animated by an irrational hostility towards the venerable military justice system,” Rivkin said. Designating Umar as a criminal suspect has caused him to “clam up” on the advice of his lawyers and has impeded the flow of urgently needed intelligence about future...

  • Health-care reform unconstitutional

President Obama has called for a serious and reasoned debate about his plans to overhaul the health-care system. Any such debate must include the question of whether it is constitutional for the federal government to adopt and implement the president's proposals. Consider one element known as the "individual mandate," which would require every American to have health insurance, if not through an employer then by individual purchase. This requirement would particularly affect young adults, who often choose to save the expense and go without coverage. Without the young to subsidize the old, a comprehensive national health system will not work....

John McCain's mother stopped by the Richmond Victory Center on Parham Rd. last night about 7:45. Background: Her appearance had not been announced in the newspaper, which had had a list of all election rallies in the coming days. It had not been announced on the McCain or Virginia McCain website. It had been briefly mentioned on an AM radio station, and the campaign workers knew about it. By the time Mrs. McCain arrived, nearly 200 people had crammed into the office. They cheered very loudly for at least 2 minutes. I was standing 4 feet away from her and...

John Kerry is not a hero. He built this facade with unabashed personal promotion, aided and abetted by a supportive liberal media ready and willing to repeat in print his gross exaggerations, distortions of fact, and outright lies about his abbreviated four-month, 12-day tour of duty in Vietnam. Until the Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth spoke up in press conferences, television ads, and with the now best-selling book, Unfit for Command, no one - not even the conservative media - seriously or effectively challenged the veracity of John Kerry's self-aggrandizement. Only now is his war-hero facade beginning to peel...
