Health-care reform unconstitutional
The Washington Post ^ | August 22, 2009 | The Doctor

President Obama has called for a serious and reasoned debate about his plans to overhaul the health-care system. Any such debate must include the question of whether it is constitutional for the federal government to adopt and implement the president's proposals.

Consider one element known as the "individual mandate," which would require every American to have health insurance, if not through an employer then by individual purchase. This requirement would particularly affect young adults, who often choose to save the expense and go without coverage. Without the young to subsidize the old, a comprehensive national health system will not work. But can Congress require every American to buy health insurance?

In short, no.The Constitution assigns only limited, enumerated powers to Congress and none, including the power to regulate interstate commerce or to impose taxes, would support a federal mandate requiring anyone who is otherwise without health insurance to buy it.

The libs are foaming at the mouth over this Op-ed piece, as expected. Already, more than 30 sites are linking to this article, which is stirring more hot debate. I know the authors, who believe that the Constitution is being "watered down" (my expression) -- a trend that began decades ago.

My concern is that without the adherence to the Constitution, we are open to despotic regimes, or becoming a banana republic.

What we really need is mandatory auto insurance for everyone!

You say you don’t drive? Tough $#!t. Still required!

People need to know how Congress gets away with it and that is interstate. They have been doing this since the 20s and 30s. I am glad this is being brought out in the open.

Hopefully, the Supreme Court of the United States, i.e., Judge Anthony Kennedy.

They’re right!

Half the federal government is unconstitutional.

This has never been attempted on a scale that these suicidal fools are shooting for.

This is doomed to failure before it even begins, but maybe that’s the plan, I don’t know.

They think they have political problems with this mess now, just wait until/if they actually foist this on the formerly free American public. What a nightmare for everyone.

This will weaken the USA in an unprecedented way. We will be free no more. All the things that made us a great country will evaporate.

Doubt that if you must, but I’ve studied this falling-off in other countries. We’re not genetically superior to anyone else on the planet. At the end of the day, the ideas that this country was built on are what’s being altered here.

We’re either free, or we’re not. There exists no gray area in regard to freedom. There are only degrees of slavery.

Shep, and the ‘good-hearted’ left can wish for a new universe all they want—millions have died trying to bring this lie, this impossibility of equal outcome into fruition.

It will end in lots of people suffering and dying as it ALWAYS has.

The hard-left have a 100% failure rate. They have NEVER achieved their stated goals. They lose more than power and money in the process, however. The cost of their meddling with nature is measured in the numbers of human corpses left to burn.

Their goals are anti-life and rail against human nature. It cannot work.

Humans are naturally selfish—they must not be shackled because of this unchangeable fact. They must be allowed to rule themselves with government existing only to preserve individual rights, period.

Anything less is, a road to slavery, stagnation, suffering, and death.

The power mongers seek to destroy selfishness and in attempting to do so destroy humans.

To be self-less is to be dead.

I know that goes against the grain of most people’s conditioning, but it is a universal truth AND YOUR RULERS KNOW IT. They must supress it to rule you.

Therefore, the left must supress/confound your very survival instinct before they can claim ownership of you.

And they are very adept at this part of their plan.

Using your fears and your ethics, they will break you down and make things like socialized medicine seem wonderful, or at least not so bad, or the least of all the invented/created ‘evils’.

If all of that doesn’t move you, then what about the fact that other countries are going broke trying to achieve this end? Why are they forever working to limit freedom and tax their people more?

It will fail, America. It is guaranteed to fail, by the universe, by the nature of things.

You cannot enslave one human to the cause of another’s existence and hope something good will come of it.

It is so simple, and yet the siren-call of the left’s promise of an easier, safer life and of ‘human equality’ proves irresistable for so many.

The unintended consequences will kill us the same as they kill non-Americans. We are but flesh and blood as well.

We must fight them!
