Just saw a reference to a Never-Trumper (who happens to be a Republican), and I really and truly want to ask a simple question of any and all of you who place yourself in that category... (BTW, I haven't seen you much lately, or any references to you folks. Did you finally join the bandwagon? It's kind of why I'm writing this.) Given the November election as it stands today (although you have to give far better odds than usual that the names may change between JUL and NOV this cycle), are you still at NEVER Trump? Never ever ever?...
  • You are 4.8 times more likely to die of Covid-19 if your Governor is a Democrat. (Vanity)

    Worldometer, 2010 Census | 4/28/20 | Teacher317
You are 4.8 times more likely to die from a Democrat Governor’s state response to Covid-19 than a Republican Governor. The numbers for the 48 contiguous States, using Worldometer Covid-19 numbers as of 4/27/20: Democrat Governors are currently elected to head 22 states 164,941,892 population (2010 Census data) 721,579 cases 45,243 deaths 274.296 deaths per million population. Republican Governors are currently elected to head 26 states 141,131,858 population (2010 Census data) 258,667 cases 8,003 deaths 56.70 deaths per million population. 274.296 divided by 56.70 equals 4.837671 Thus: You are 4.8 times more likely to die with a Democrat Governor managing...
  • VANITY - A drop in new US Covid-19 cases coming soon? Check my math

Just posted this on another thread, and I think that it might deserve its own. It's potentially great news, and most of us are really desperate for that right about now... Looking at the graphs of New Cases Reported in China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, France, and Spain, they are relatively consistent. Some cases get reported, and then a sudden rise in cases reported lasts for 13-17 days, then they hit a plateau for 3-4 days, then they begin to decline. China's rise lasted for 25 days, but that's easily explained by the fact that they were first, that they...
  • Vanity question - WHAT-IF? Assume Trump orders a 14-day US-wide quarantine... What happens?

It may be irrational, it may be highly unlikely, it may be entirely disproportional to the actual impact thus far, but... WHAT IF... What if Trump announces a 14-day US quarantine? We Americans are a contrarian bunch... urban centers are not down for being patient or compliant... The Poor are not going to be able to survive for 14 days with their current resources, and they will not be able to survive a 14-day skip in their pay cycles...
  • Vanity - response to Impeachment

Okay, it looks like the Dems are really goo to pull that trigger and vote to Impeach the President without even listing an actual crime or criminal statute. A Cuban caller into Rush’s show just now asked if that could ever be reversed or erased somehow. Of course it cannot, but it prompted a thought... If this election tactic by the Dems blows up in their faces, and the GOP takes back the House and controls all 3... Should the GOP just go over the top in effusive praise and rewards and renamings and recognitions for President Trump for 2,...

I use RCP as my polling resource. It's a bit left-leaning, but it tends to have more polls that most other sites, and makes trends a bit easier to see. Anyway, last week, they had the House as 205-198 with 32 "tossups". As of today, it is 203-198, with 34 tossups. Clearly, the MSM isn't going to share this change, so it is up to us to notice and spread the word... thus, this vanity. Among the 34 tossups, 30 are current GOP seats. The two that just shifted rightward are MN7 and NV4, both current Dem seats. Curiously, the...

Just looking for a little input before I start posting this inquiry on all the social media I can find... Of course I only get my own little slice of the American media market, so maybe I'm missing something, but I have yet to see a single Democrat ad that is running on anything but personal attacks. We all know that they have nothing to run on, but I'm just wondering if they are basically admitting it as well by omitting anything substantive from any political campaign ads. What have you all seen out there so far? The election is...

NY Gov Coumo was just the most recent Lefty to say "America isn't Great". We should have a long list proving otherwise, handy for all to post on Social Media in response when this foolish notion is pushed. If we don't get 100 items in a list within a day, I'll be sorely disappointed in FR!!!

In another thread, a Freeper wrote, "I want to see Hussein’s Passport records, foreign and domestic. That got me thinking, and doing a little research... and maybe this could become huge, if the right people see it and act... My response: Remember that FORMER President Obama's very very first act in office, on JAN 21, 2009, was to sign an Executive Order 13489 that essentially made sure that a President's (former and incumbent) personal records could be kept private by claiming executive privilege (while promising a "transparent" administration... which then set the record for FOIA request rejections). Idiot Liberals will...
  • Trump vs Cruz... bridging the FR divide, while still standing up for your choice

It is clear that we are almost evenly divided between Trump and Cruz (tip of the hat to DoughtyOne for the Caucus threads). It is also clear that in about 1-3 months, one will almost surely be the chosen candidate, and one will not. It is also clear that Freerepublic will still be here with both factions still being active (and hopefully not just for the "I told you so" moment that may come). With that in mind, I'd like to make an effort at seeing if there is any way to bridge the gap between the two factions here....

Meeting America's Challenges, Protecting America's Values Introduction Our vision is simple. We want an America that gives all Americans the chance to live out their dreams and achieve their God-given potential. We want an America that is still the world's strongest force for peace and freedom. And we want an America that is coming together around our enduring values, instead of drifting apart. We are determined to renew America's most basic bargain: Opportunity to every American, and responsibility from every American. Opportunity. Responsibility. Community. These are the values that made America strong. These are the values that must guide us...

    RNC dirty tricks | 12-10-2015 | Teacher317
There are reasons why Donald Trump will NOT be the GOP nominee, and they have little to do with the will of the voters. (Disclaimer: I have been openly for Cruz, and continue to be so, but I have also openly admitted that if Cruz is not the GOP nominee, I will vote for Trump as GOP or 3rd Party... or else I write in Cruz.) The problem, not surprisingly, is the GOP and the RNC. Back in 2014, they quietly changed the rules for the GOP Primaries. The TEA Party was surging, and the GOPe didn't want actual grassroots...

I'm not exactly a Biblical scholar, so be a little gentle with the flames. I was watching Passion of the Christ yesterday for Easter (my third time seeing it), and a thought occurred to me. Both the movie and the Gospels note that Pilate tried, repeatedly, to not sentence Jesus to death. His wife lobbied for Jesus, he declared "this man has done nothing", he sent him to Herod declaring him not guilty, and he even tried the once-a-year prisoner release gambit. At every turn, the high priests and the crowd pushed for his death. Even after finding him guilty...

RealClearPolitics I just posted on an Obama-losing-VA thread that I hadn't seen much on the Senate races. With Obama starting to cede more states, and increasing spending in places like CA and NYC, it's clear that the Dems are in real trouble. Looking at the Senate, the link shows an excellent breakdown of the expected Senate composition, and the toss-up seats.

For those who had heard and were worried, I'm surprisingly okay. The Ford F-150 is a remarkable machine. 130-mph head-on speed (NASCAR crashes are sometimes slower than that), and the seatlbelt caused most of my injuries (which is FAR better than any other alternative!!!). Happened 14 hrs ago, and I'm mostly just sore and bewildered. Sadly, the other driver did not survive. I actually didn't see much of her until she was trying to get in the front seat of my truck... while still in her Saturn. The female minivan in front of me said she (the Saturn driver) swerved...

JOHANNESBURG – Two Dutch women were released on bail Wednesday after facing charges they took part in an ambush marketing campaign at a World Cup match. The women were among a group of more than 30 Dutch women who attended Monday's Netherlands-Denmark game at Soccer City wearing orange minidresses paid for by brewing company Bavaria. They said they were ordered from the stadium by FIFA officials. The women are being prosecuted under the Contravention of Merchandise Marks Act which covers ambush marketing, when a company benefits from an event without paying for advertising.
