President Bush told us last week that the “market is not functioning properly.” On this, President Bush is correct, but for the wrong reasons. A friend of mine who briefly dabbled in mortgage lending (he got into it just about the time the housing market collapsed, and has now moved on to a new job), said that when he got into mortgage lending his new boss saw the current problems coming. Companies were lending risky money on what they knew would be bad mortgages, his boss told him. Lo and behold, here we are with a national housing market in...

NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: In the meantime, cracking down on illegals, the centerpiece of my next guest's presidential campaign, pretty much like the assemblyman's here, but he's not getting any traction. Why is that? It seems his message is falling on deaf ears, in fact. And he really was ahead of this before anyone, Republican presidential candidate Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo. Congressman, I do not mean to bash your presidential prospects, but, on this one issue, where you have been ahead of really most anyone on the national basis, it's not gelling. What's going on? (CROSSTALK) REP. TOM TANCREDO, R-COLO., PRESIDENTIAL...

NASHUA – Republican presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo, of Colorado, said President Bush's failure to enforce existing immigration laws is "despicable" and leading to a domestic crisis. If elected, Tancredo, 61, said he'd ask Congress to require the withdrawal of Social Security taxes from all employee wages to make it easier for the federal government to track and deport illegal aliens. "If we don't like our immigration laws, if we think they are wrong, repeal them. If we don't think they are wrong, enforce them," Tancredo said during an interview with The Telegraph editorial board at Nashua High School South....

THE UGLY TRUTHS THAT NO ONE…..ESPECIALLY MY OPPONENTS ….WANT TO TALK ABOUT! Dear Sittin, I just returned yesterday from a great three-day campaign swing through New Hampshire. Thanks, as always, for helping make our campaign possible! Here’s what really struck me on this trip: how much my audiences appreciated it when I spoke to them about some ugly truths that no other candidate, in either party, is willing to address. Some of these ugly truths? For starters, the fact that we as Americans are rapidly losing our national identity, our national culture and our linguistic unity! You and I know...

Bedford – The most important domestic issue in the 2008 presidential election is not health care, education or the economy, but immigration, which has an impact on all of the other issues and is tied to the survival of the America nation, U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo said yesterday. Tancredo, R-Colo., said neither party wants to the address the problem of illegal immigration. Democrats, he said, don't care because they see illegal immigrants as future voters while Republicans see them as future cheap labor. Illegal immigrants may save their employers dollars in lower wages, but they cost the country billions in...

Republican presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo said last week that the New Hampshire Primary and the Iowa caucus are critical to his chances of becoming his party’s nominee. “We’ve got to do well in New Hampshire and in Iowa,” said Tancredo, in an exclusive interview with the Journal on Sept. 6. “Those two states have to be our springboard for the rest of what is coming after that. We count on that. I don’t necessarily have to win both, but I have to do well and if I can do that it will definitely catapult me into the next round.” And...

Gen. David Petraeus and moveon.org aside, in a new twist to the debate over the war in Iraq, Presidential candidate and Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo attacked plans to attach an illegal amnesty rider to a Democratic proposed defense bill by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA). Durbin attempted to add a provision that would enable illegal aliens to access taxpayer-subsidized tuition benefits. Feinstein is trying to attach a provision that would give amnesty to 2 million illegal aliens. The controversial measure would be tied to a Defense Authorization bill. Tancredo said, “Piggy-backing amnesty legislation onto a defense bill...

--- SNIP --- Rep. Tom Tancredo, Washington's staunchest opponent of amnesty for illegal immigrants - the biggest hot-button issue of the campaign - is by far one of the most articulate and principled candidates and made a tremendous showing in his extremely limited time. He expressed his frustration to Fox News about the paucity of questions he received. "I had four questions in 90 minutes, and the first one didn't come for 35 minutes. It is enormously frustrating. ... I try to do my best because you have only one minute to 'make your bones,' ... [yet] you feel like...

Presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo, blasted comments this week by Mexican president Felipe Calderon (pictured). Calderon said at his State of the Union speech Sunday that he would continue to protest “unilateral actions” of the U.S. Congress that “exacerbate the persecution” of Mexican illegal immigrants in the United States. He also said that Mexico does not end at the border because “where there is a Mexican. There is Mexico.” In a statement, Tancredo quipped: “Indeed part of Mexico is moving into the United States, but unfortunately that includes drug runners, gang violence and the Spanish language supplanting English.” The...

--SNIP-- Fourth place went, a little surprisingly, to Tom Tancredo, who delivered perhaps the biggest applause line of the day as the candidates delivered their pitches, one after the other, to the Republicans gathered in the air-conditioned Hilton Coliseum. The unexpected thing was that Tancredo’s applause-getter wasn’t about immigration. Instead, Tancredo told the story of Danny Dietz, a Navy SEAL who was killed in Afghanistan in circumstances Tancredo blamed on restrictive rules of engagement. “When I am president, I will never, ever, ever send anyone into harm’s way with a CYA memo drafted by a Pentagon lawyer,” Tancredo told the...

WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo has demanded that fellow GOP White House hopeful Sen. Sam Brownback apologize for questioning Tancredo's commitment to outlawing abortion. Tancredo, a congressman from Colorado, and Brownback, a Kansas senator, are vying for support from GOP conservatives who influence the Iowa caucuses. Brownback's campaign has been making phone calls in Iowa that criticize Tancredo for taking campaign money from a Planned Parenthood backer. It has also posted a press release detailing the accusations. "Say no to Tom Tancredo and his Planned Parenthood friend and help end abortion in America," the caller says, according...

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo is accusing President Bush, rival John McCain and others who tried but failed to push through an immigration reform measure of a total disregard for the views of others. "It was the arrogance that got to me as much as the bad policy that they were pushing," Tancredo says. "I mean even the president, you remember him saying, 'I'm going to see you in the Rose Garden at the (bill) signing ceremony.' Well, there was no signing ceremony. There's not going to be a bill signing ceremony." Tancredo has made his opposition to illegal immigration...

(AP) DENVER Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., raised nearly $1.47 million for his presidential campaign in the second quarter of the year, according to campaign finance reports filed Sunday. The total left him well behind fundraising totals for leading candidates among both Democrats and Republicans in the race, though Tancredo's campaign also reported little debt. He had $598,451 in cash on hand, and his campaign committee had $15,0000 in debts and obligations owed, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission. The amount raised topped the $1.3 million Tancredo raised in the first three months of the year.

Washington - Not all babies born in the United States would automatically become citizens and legal immigration would slow to a crawl under broad immigration-reform legislation unveiled Wednesday by Rep. Tom Tancredo. The Littleton Republican, known for his stalwart anti-immigration views, said a rewrite of immigration laws is still needed. Saying he needs to push the envelope, Tancredo came up with a bill that takes a starkly different tack from the version that just died in the Senate. "What I don't want to happen is that everyone walks away from the table," Tancredo said. "My hope is that by doing...

DETROIT -- As Susan Milligan noted in today's Globe, Republican presidential hopefuls have largely shied away from appearing before organizations and groups deemed to have a liberal slant. But don't tell that to US Representative Tom Tancredo of Colorado, the lone GOP candidate to appear this morning at the NAACP's annual convention in Detroit. After he came out, Tancredo wandered around the empty stage, not knowing which podium to use. "Oh, right here?" he said when led to the center lectern. "Oh my gosh, this is amazing." "Do you think we should wait a few minutes to see if these...

AMES, IOWA — Tom Tancredo is used to anger and hostility. But success is something else. So when the Senate buckled under a wave of popular protest and rejected an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, Tancredo wasn't sure how people would respond. The five-term Republican congressman from Colorado is not just the hard-line face of immigration reform. His run for the GOP presidential nomination is based entirely on a platform that can be summarized in a single sentence: Seal the border and send 'em back. A three-day Iowa swing, after the Senate bill's collapse last week, was a triumphal...

Link Tancredo Land episode 2 ... Tancredo walks through the home that belongs to his grandparents. Talks about it with the family now living there. Episode 1 was good (with poor sound quality, though) as Tancredo talked about a gun toting priest who shot and killed a burglar.

n the wake of President Bush’s clemency of former vice presidential chief of staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Rep. Tom Tancredo urged the president to “take it a step further” and fully pardon two former Border Patrol agents whose case has galvanized conservatives. The agents — Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos — were convicted of shooting a suspected drug smuggler and trying to cover up the incident. They are serving 12 and 11 year sentences, respectively. Supporters say the agents were convicted wrongly for protecting the U.S. border against criminal intruders. Their case has become a cause celeb for conservative talk...

There are two “I’s” that are a resounding theme in any political campaign for federal office and such was the case when GOP presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo visited Marshalltown Friday. Immigration and Iraq dominated the discussion with a group of veterans at the Iowa Veterans Home. The Colorado congressman praised the defeat of a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the Senate this week and said his plan for fixing the illegal immigration situation in the United States is bold and controversial. “Enforce the law,” he said. “The issue is this: Is there a solution to the problem and is that...

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In a sign that Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback is seeking the pro-life mantle among the candidates competing for the Republican nomination for president, his campaign is going after Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo. Brownback's camp says the fellow GOP presidential candidate accepted money from a pro-abortion activist. Brownback's team has been taking shots at top-tier candidates, including repeatedly going after former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. But, on Monday, the campaign complained that Tancredo has accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Dr. John Tanton, a founder of a major Planned Parenthood network. According to FEC donation...
