Tancredo's Q&A with Rocky Mountain News ... in the car ... with a broken air conditioner: --SNIP-- You were a little quieter in the first two debates than in the third one. Your voice changed, you had a certain urgency to you when it looked like the Senate (immigration reform) bill was still on the table." As president I think I could do it (immigration reform) because you've got this incredible phenomenon here. I've never seen anything like it. If I just come into a state and say, "Tom Tancredo is coming to such and such hall tonight," here comes...

AMES - Republican presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo criticized two of his GOP rivals on their commitment to combat illegal immigration. The Colorado congressman was in Ames on Sunday to open a campaign office and seek support for the Aug. 11 straw poll in Ames. Tancredo said he is running for president because no other candidate has as strong a commitment to illegal immigration as he does. He said Rudy Giuliani, a former New York City mayor, has tried to make it a ``sanctuary city'' for illegal immigrants. ``He's now happy as a clam with the idea of securing our borders...

The loudest cheers went to conservative Representative Tom Tancredo, who spoke out against illegal immigration. "If you want to call me a single-issue candidate, that's fine as long as you know my issue is the survival of this country," he said.

Thank you! Thank you for your phone calls, your emails, your contributions and everything you did to help "we the people" kill the Bush-Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill in the Senate yesterday. This time, the system worked. The American people made their voices heard and 53 Senators did the right thing, standing up to the White House, the Hispanic Lobby, and the corporate special interests. Our Senate victory is not only a victory for America --- it is a huge victory for our campaign! The American people have said "no" to amnesty.....and now they need a president who stands foursquare with them,...

Now that it's finally over, only the vital questions remain. Which was more annoying: the immigration bill or the immigration bill "debate"? Who is more juvenile: Congressman Tom Tancredo or Sen. Ken Salazar? And is it possible to have a lower approval rating than President Bush? If you're not in Congress, I mean. A debate typically entails two sides hashing out an issue with facts, rebuttals and so on. Listening on occasion. Not here. It was like watching my grandparents discuss dinner plans. --SNIP-- How many Coloradans truly understand the intricacies of this wide-ranging reform? Few, I suspect. The bill...

'THE IMPACT of immigration — legal and illegal — on jobs, schools, healthcare, the environment, national security, are all very serious problems," insists Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), a man famed for his extreme anti-immigration views. "But more serious than all of them put together is this threat to the culture. I believe we are in a clash of civilizations." Tancredo's right about that last bit. We are in a clash of civilizations — and someday, immigrant culture may even displace some aspects of American culture. We'd better hope so. Americans? We're fat, decadent and getting dumber all the time. Our...

I asked some follow up questions of Colorado Congressman and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo: 1. What would you do to address climate change in striving for energy independence? 2. What would you do to address taxes, health care, and education in striving for economic vibrancy? 3. What would you do about Iran's nuclear drive and its support of terrorism? LINK

Republican presidential contender Tom Tancredo will soon quit the 2008 race if his support in a key test doesn’t measure up to other candidates, a campaign aide said. The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Tancredo would concentrate on being re-elected to Congress if he doesn’t finish in the top four at the Iowa Republican Party’s Ames Straw Poll on August 11. Tancredo, a conservative Colorado congressman, is known for being an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration – advocating for strict enforcement of federal immigration laws. His presidential campaign has garnered little support in national polls, though he...

Yesterday, 64 United States Senators – including two of my opponents for the Republican presidential nomination, Sam Brownback and John McCain -- voted to move the Bush-Kennedy-McCain Amnesty bill forward. When those 64 Senators cast their “aye” votes, they betrayed the trust of the American people and the security of the United States. It really is that simple! I am absolutely disgusted at the arrogance of those Senators who freely disregard the will of the American people by their support of massive amnesty for illegal aliens. They have willfully ignored the mistakes of the 1986 amnesty bill, in order to...

(Washington, D.C.) – Presidential candidate Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today called on the organizers of the Iowa presidential forum to allow the participation of Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX). “While I don’t see eye-to-eye with Rep. Paul on all issues, he is a respected Congressman, a former presidential candidate, and a man with strong convictions and the courage to express them,” Tancredo said, “The Republican party is better because he is one of us and he has earned the right to be in all presidential forums and debates.” The Presidential Forum is scheduled for Saturday, June 30th in Des Moines, Iowa....

LITTLETON – U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., walked the streets of Littleton yesterday morning, and then led a town meeting-style gathering of about 50 people at the United Methodist Church on Main Street. The congressman, who wants to run for President in 2008, noted that there was about 30 degrees difference between New Hampshire's Littleton, and his hometown of Littleton, Colo., that day. "I noticed as I was about to cross the street, the 'stop, look, and wave' on the road, and thought, 'What a great place for a politician!' Then a young motorist stopped and decided to tell me...

The US House of Representatives on Thursday unanimously passed a measure that would eliminate a long list of restrictions on contacts between Taiwan and US officials imposed by the US Department of State that have severely crimped communications between the two sides since Washington recognized Beijing in 1978. The House acted by adding an amendment to a bill funding the State Department and other foreign affairs operations for next year. The funding bill will now go to the Senate, where the fate of the Taiwan amendment is unclear. The amendment, introduced by Republican Representative Tom Tancredo, would prohibit the administration...

--SNIP-- While the political implications of a possible third-party candidate may intrigue some lawmakers, others were less impressed. “Good riddance,” Republican presidential candidate Rep. Tom Tancredo (Colo.) said of Bloomberg, and added that others should follow suit because “it would be a truer reflection of who they really are.” Tancredo said it was unlikely that an independent Bloomberg run would have an impact on the presidential field or the electoral balance. “In terms of what you have to do to [register] electoral votes, I doubt it will make much of a difference,” he said. ----SNIP----

Tom Tancredo said he doesn't mind getting confused with Iowa Rep. Steve King. He's grown accustomed to it. "My sister-in-law was watching television one night," the Colorado congressman recalled, "and called my wife, telling her what a great speech I made." "Of course, it turned out to be Steve talking on TV that night," he good-naturedly told a crowd gathered at Le Mars' Family Table Restaurant Saturday morning. Calling the Iowa congressman "a great guy," Tancredo said he and King not only talk alike and look alike, "We are also simpatico on many issues." "In fact, Steve was one of...

Rep. Tom Tancredo ratcheted up his presidential bid and anti-illegal immigration crusade today with a hot-button Web ad declaring: "Tom Tancredo: Defeat amnesty politicians." The red-and-blue advertisement on DrudgeReport.com linked to the Colorado Republican's campaign Web site statement imploring: "Defeat Amnesty AND the Amnesty Politicians ... Join 'The Save America Campaign.' " "Today I am launching a campaign to stop the U.S. Senate from selling out our country by giving amnesty to over fifteen million illegal aliens — but I can't do it without your help," stated Tancredo. He asked supporters to sign an online "No Amnesty" petition and to...

At 4:56 in this video this video, John Edwards has to answer a "shotgun" round of questions ... is it a right or a privilege? Do you know the answers? This presidential candidate and former U.S. Senator gets them wrong. All of them.

With the media attention on the big names in the election, how do you expect to win the nomination? —Roland Green, DENVER I have to do well enough in the first primary states to command the media attention that I would otherwise have to buy. That's why we in the second tier are all fearful of these compressed primaries. We can't afford to run in 10 states at one time. ----SNIP----- Why do you hate Mexicans? —Ubaldo Padilla, OROVILLE, CALIF. Ah, jeez. You know, even responding to that question gives it some credibility. I don't hate anyone because of their...

Today I spoke to Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project. The most striking part of the interview was how mild his views on immigration truly were. The man has been vilified by most of the Left and even much of the Right, including the White House. He’s supposed to be an immigrant-hating vigilante who dreams of dead Mexicans at night. Instead, he’s an intelligent, mild-mannered person with very reasonable proposals that include supporting a limited H1b temporary visa program for skilled workers and about 200,000 legal immigrants annually. We also covered the War of Terror, U.S. Presidential elections,...
