I believe that suggestion was made by Dolly, a bit further up in the thread.

Thinking of you in the circumstances in which you find yourself. Happy to know that you’ll soon be out of it, but thankful for the many years you have devoted to your efforts to steer things in the correct direction in Iowa.

Good morning. Though you don’t hear from me often, please include a ping to me on whatever tribute is decided upon in remembrance of kay. I agree that a lasting tribute, perhaps in the work in which Jemian and her family are engaged, would be most appropriate.

Some of you, as I, have had the distinct pleasure of spending time with kay and her husband Herb. They are a lovely, genuine Christian couple whose hearts are devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ.

We here on this thread, and FR in general, have had the wonderful privilege of having kayak in our virtual presence for many years. Her conduct and her testimony have truly been a blessing to me personally and to each of you. I know you all have deep compassion for the loss her family suffers... and we gladly sorrow with them and uphold them in prayer.

“BUT... I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede them who are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words”. [1 Thessalonians 4:13-18]

Words fail me! How wonderful the memories of times we spent together in Charlotte. May the love of God and the mind of Christ be with you and in you in these difficult days.

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain... For I am in a strait between two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better...” [Php 1:21,23]

“We are confident... and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” [2Cor 5:8]

Kay, and Herb, your lives have been examples of the love of Christ to many. How rich and how wonderful your love of God and your love to each other. I pray God’s wondrous peace will encompass and fill your hearts as you commune together.

Oh, the ravages wrought by sin, but, praise God, our eternal salvation rests upon our faith and wholehearted trust in “the gospel... by which you are saved... that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, according to the scriptures...” [1Cor 15:1-4] Hallelujah! Christ is risen!

I know that you desire that this be your testimony to the world at this time... that God would be magnified and glorified whether in life or in death.

I love you both in the Lord.

poppyseed... My prayer is that you will know the love of Christ in the depths to which your Mom and Dad have, and that your life and love will shine forth as a testimony to your children in like manner.

Thank you for keeping us updated.

I am not an attorney but have been Chairman of one not-for-profit, currently a member of the Board of another, and reside in a community that is activated and operates as one.

A couple of points... First, not-for-profit organizations are allowed to make a profit, in fact, many of them are required by statute to have large cash reserves if they promise services for which they charge a fee. Second, some of the principals of not-for-profits are paid very high salaries, supposedly for their ability to generate huge donations. I say with humility, I was not among those.

Not-for-profits must be organized under the strict rules of Article 501c(3) of the IRS Code. There are numerous restrictions and an attorney should be consulted to draw up the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws. One could write the documents without an attorney because the documents must be submitted to the IRS for approval as a not-for-profit. The reason for an attorney is to ensure approval of the IRS requirements (many and specific) and to assure potential donors that all is legit.

To ensure that there is a minimum chance of conflict or mismanagement concerning activities and funding of monies, I would ask at least 7 reputable, knowledgeable and interested people to serve as a Board of Directors. Make the Executive Director (decision maker of the organization, not a Board member) responsible and accountable to the Board and set governing limitations on actions and spending. Decisions as to the management and disbursement of funds and the undertaking of major projects should be subject to the approval of the Board.

These are some very basic principles I would require if I were getting involved in setting up a not-for-profit where other people would be asked to contribute either funds or goods.

Many people are more than willing to contribute to a worthy cause if they can be assured that the majority of what is contributed is being used in the manner portrayed by the Articles of Incorporation and the current By-Laws and they have confidence in the Executive Director and Board members. It gives them assurance that an individual or individuals are not enriching themselves or relatives/friends under false premises.

    For whatever it is worth...

  • Scenes from the Gingrich Campaign: Don't rule out Newt in 2008

Chuck Norris knows of Newt's shortcomings, and still feels he is the only true Reagan Republican worthy to run for the office of President. See article below.

    http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54099

Further... Newt is intelligent and knows his past failings need to be dealt with. Thus, recently on Dr Dobson's program he admitted those failings in saying, and I paraphrase, "I have done many things that fall short of my own moral standings, and I certainly have done many things that fall short of God's standings". In my view he is establishing, on well known and respected Christian venues, his failings. He is also picking up the support of respected right-wingers who have heard him apologize for his past actions. It will be "old news" by the time the conventions and election come.

Thanks so much for that information. Yes, if it isn't an inconvenience, I'd appreciate it greatly if you watched for them. I am suspecting that it is perhaps a regional type promotion since there are none in any of the WalMart stores here.

Just let me know by FReepmail and I'll be thankful.

    Hi...

Not sure who mentioned the "War in the Pacific" DVDs in WalMart the other day. They were in the $ bin. I went to WalMart here in Ft Myers and they have no knowledge of them. They might have sold out because of the great number of veterans who spend the winter here.

Wondering if someone who has access to them would be willing to buy half a dozen for me. I'll FReepmail my address if anyone is successful. Will pay postage and handling.

Could not find it on the WalMart web.

    Thanks much.

If one watches this video it is easy to see the results of "the voting public" in years to come. The "voting public" will not resemble anything we have seen in our lifetimes.

This is a 13 minute video that EVERY CITIZEN of the US should watch... then act... mail the URL, or email the URL to your representative in Congress, and to your friends.

It is not my nature to "forward" email but this is one of the most chilling presentations I've seen.

ML... the new 9ft Steinway was acquired in trade for a 9ft Baldwin. The piece played the other evening was the Wanderer Sonata by Schubert.

Jem & pb... here are the birds I've seen today here in sunny sw FL: Osprey(s); Eagle; wood stork; white pelican; ibis(s) (40); little green heron; great blue heron; great white egret; mallard duck(s); cormorant(s); anhinga(s); sand hill crane(s).

    ... and several manatee.

There is an osprey nest about 100 yards away. The eagle must have seen the egg(s) and was diving on the nest. Both osprey (male and female) were chasing it away... one staying on the nest, the other pursuing the eagle. At this moment there are about a dozen ibis resting at the edge of the water about 40 yards from me, along with a small heron and a few ducks.

Quite a place to be to watch birds. On the golf course the other day there must have been more than 100 (didn't count them) in a combination of white pelican, wood storks, egret, heron.

Toby... how are you my good friend? So happy to hear of your joy with Jason, and all of your other adventures.

    Mozie... Couple of things.

I said that Frederick Moyer was here for a concert... that's my general term for a performance. Technically I suppose he did a recital. He played on our new $125,000 Steinway concert grand piano (we have 2 of them at the Village Church) and since he was the only instrument playing I guess that's a recital.

Since the retired music professor lives just a few doors from me I'll find out the title of the Schubert piece. Moyer had CDs, tapes, etc., for sale. When I asked him if he had one of the Schubert piece he indicated it had not yet been recorded but he put me on his mailing list. I intend to purchase that one when it is published.

Another note... last month we had a recital by Jelani Eddington,
    http://www.rjeproductions.com/
one of the great theater organists (theater organist of the year 2001). He played both piano and organ during his recital but we had the pleasure of listening to the PREMIER performance of a couple of Leroy Anderson's (the man who wrote "China Doll" etc.) musical pieces.

Eddington visited Anderson's widow and she later sent him some original manuscripts, most of which had never been seen by anyone nor played in public. He played 2 of them and announced that our group was the first to ever hear them outside of his studio. Fascinating!

Another group that performed last month was Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass
    http://www.kingsbrass.org/
I don't believe I have ever heard a brass ensemble play so well. The blending of the various brass voices was tremendously well done. The gal who accompanies them is terrific... plays piano, keyboard and organ.

... forgot to finish about Frederick Moyer.

His final piece took about 23 minutes to play and his concert, which lasted about 70 minutes, was done without a single note of music before him. All by memory!

    Good morning!!!

Mozie... speaking of pianists, are you acquainted with the work of Frederick Moyer? We had him here for a concert this past week. Superb!!!

Now, I'm not a connosieur (sp) of fine piano players but I thought this fellow was amazing. He did a number of short classical pieces with comments between. For his finale he did a rendition of one of Schubert's compositions. I don't have the program and though I love classical piano I am not one to remember the names of the various concertos.

This is a very difficult piece, one that Schubert himself attempted soon after composing it and when about half way through he quit, stood up, and said "let the devil do it"!

I was seated next to a retired music professor who said to me as we were in standing ovation... "superb! superb!"

His home page is here: http://www.frederickmoyer.com/
