Teruko Murakami Nakamura passed to her Heavenly reward today. She was 83 ~ from a family of 8, she is survived by her husband, 2 sisters, 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.Originally from Portland, Oregon her life was changed dramatically on this date 69 years ago when she went from being a carefree young teenager to someone faced with serious adult problems.Over the course of the next few months her father, a prosperous small hotel owner who'd had a career as a Western cowboy chuck wagon cook, prepping salmon in a cannery, and selling fruit on the sidewalk,...

Juanita Carpenter Richardson, 73, Purdue’s first Golden Girl, died in San Diego, CA, on Dec. 25, 2009, following a short illness. Director Emeritus of Bands Al G. Wright recruited Juanita to come to Purdue from Colorado and perform as a solo twirler with the “All-American” Marching Band in1954. Her blond hair, gold sequin costume and twirling talents combined to make her an instant fan favorite. She twirled two football seasons, in 1954 and 1955, but the name given to her - Purdue’s Golden Girl - created a tradition that continues to this day.

INDIANAPOLIS (December 30, 2009) - 2009 traffic fatalities in Indiana are on pace to be the lowest recorded since 1925. Preliminary statistics through December 28 show 680 highway fatalities, compared to 814 for the same period in 2008, according to Indiana State Police (ISP). That is a more than 16 percent reduction. Three IU football players were named in a probable cause affidavit stemming from a robbery Dec. 17, resulting in IU freshman cornerback Cortez Smith's arrest. Freshmen IU football players Dennis Zeigler, Darius Johnson and Jarrell Drane were all named in the probable cause affidavit filed Dec. 19. According to the probable cause affidavit, Smith and the other suspect, Lazell C. McClellon, knocked on the victims' house and stole IDs, wallets, an iPod, marijuana and an Xbox game system.
