  • Eric Scott - What could he have done differently?

What could Erik Scott have done differently, considering the circumstances? I don't watch TV so maybe I'm way out of touch, but as far as I can tell, Scott pretty much did the very best he could have. He informed them that he had a gun (Police always like to know if someone's got a gun, and many cc folks inform police of that as a polite thing to do - police don't like surprises) It seems that Police told him to drop the gun - but since Scott wasn't HOLDing the gun, how can he drop it? He first...

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Rosie, the first judicially approved courtroom dog in New York, was in the witness box here nuzzling a 15-year-old girl who was testifying that her father had raped and impregnated her. Rosie sat by the teenager’s feet. At particularly bad moments, she leaned in. When the trial ended in June with the father’s conviction, the teenager “was most grateful to Rosie above all,” said David A. Crenshaw, a psychologist who works with the teenager. “She just kept hugging Rosie,” he continued. Now an appeal planned by the defense lawyers is placing Rosie at the heart of a...

  • Who's its rocker - me or the moon?

The sky | 2AM. If there's more to it then that, I'm too tired to know | Jesse
Who broke the moon? Broken Moon Normal Moon I guess seeing stuff like this and having no clue is what I get for not watching TV - and staying up till 2AM. For those of you with black and white computer monitors, the moon has been dim and orange all night so far, and it's half past 2AM as I write. Everything else looks normal. Anyway, staying up late is bad for you. Kids, if you stay up too late, the moon may turn bad colors. -Jesse
  • How one smoked fresh fish in the high country

Pictures of a simple fish smoker setup for the high country Above: A wooden tripod made from dead sticks holds up the freshly caught and cleaned fish, while a small stainless bowel (This one is from an old ladle) sits on the camp-stove to hold the hickory chips (which can be purchased at most grocery stores). A small stainless wire runs through the fish, and hooks onto the tripod to suspend them. Above: Now over the whole works is put one of these oven-proof plastic bags also from the grocery store or the like (in the ziploc/glad bag section, probably)...
