Who's its rocker - me or the moon?
The sky

Who broke the moon?
 Broken Moon |
 Normal Moon |
I guess seeing stuff like this and having no clue is what I get for not watching TV - and staying up till 2AM.
For those of you with black and white computer monitors, the moon has been dim and orange all night so far, and it's half past 2AM as I write. Everything else looks normal. Anyway, staying up late is bad for you. Kids, if you stay up too late, the moon may turn bad colors.

Taken with Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300d connected up to a toy 1 meter focal length 10cm diameter refracting meade telescope - ISO 400, about 1/50th of a second, f stop 1/10 I guess. No editing was done except to crop and resize. The moon really looked orange like the picture depicts.

*Sigh*.
The title is supposed to be "Who's off of its rocker - the moon or me?".
That's what I get for posting at 2am.

The planet Venus is reflected off swamp gas accounting for the moon’s appearance. They were no aliens. There was no 600 foot worm. Now look right here at this light...

Use a good cleaner, such as oxi-clean. That should do it. ;)

OK ...here's one for ya............
Sit about 1 metre from your screen and hold up your thumb halfway between you and it, look at your thumb, then focus on the image you see just behind it (you can move your thumb forward and back till this occurs), remove thumb.
You should hopefully have combined the two images into a single 3D one.

I’m reminded of something in the Bible about the moon being red in the end times. I could be mistaken.

Thanks, LiM.
I guess there’s a first time for everything. And it looks like people all over are seeing the moon the same color.
First time for me. I’m still not sure what’s causing it.
I can see some stars overhead, so it’s not too overcast, but I cannot see as many stars as normal, so it’s not perfectly clear either.
I took a 30 second exposure of the stars (ISO400, F1/4) and they look orange too, but it’s hard to tell. So it must be some atmospheric condition that makes everything look orange.
That’d be spooky in the daytime.
Thanks again,
-Jesse

Moisture in the air can give that effect.
At first I thought you were talking about Keith Moon.

I get some incredible ‘moonscapes’ of the full moon over the valley across the street from my house- but Ihave never been able to take a photo
How do you photograph the moon at night AND still see the landscape below it?
I was thinking of a tripod and taking two images, one with the moon blocked by a shade, then photoshopping them together.

The long exposure you need to get detail on the moon is what makes the landscape visible.

Revelation 6:12
I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red
