The 2024 presidential election is just around the corner — and young employees are threatening to quit if their bosses express a political belief they disagree with.
In fact, a new poll found that nearly half of workers under 35 say they’d quit a job over political differences at work. In an era of polarization, Americans have cut ties with partners, friends and even family members over political disagreements, but now it seems they’re even willing to leave a paycheck behind.
It’s a sign that politics has become all-encompassing — and that there’s no place in society left that it hasn’t penetrated. Worse yet, young people are totally intolerant of people they disagree with. According to a Harris Poll commissioned by the job search company Indeed, 60% of employees would prefer to work for a company with a CEO that shares their political beliefs.

“You might be a Democrat, if....”
Either there’s a revival in faith in Jesus, or there’s a bloody civil war. I don’t see any other way.
I feel that way.
One of the reasons I don’t miss academia, at all!
The two options you’ve listed are not mutually exclusive.
They say that. A few might, but mostly just talk. Like leaving the country if Trump is elected. Right.
There has to be two sides to have a civil war.
We set up our home in Eugene OR during the 70’s. I was a Vietnam veteran and was proud of my service. For forty years I enjoyed irritating the citizens there with my hats, shirts, and innocent remarks.
I hate the book American Secession by F.H. Buckley but he is one of the few to go over the drawbacks of attempts at pulling out of the USA.
On one interview show the innocent radio guy tried to argue that secession would be terrible and so on. But then the author said "so then we go back to the alternative of physical civil war." The guy pulled up short and started to ask again about the possible scenarios of states seceding. No one could figure out who pays the national debt and how does military funding and protection work. Plus Social Security, Medicare and other programs if the state is no longer in the United States.
One major conclusion: People are not going to tolerate being near people they hate (for their political views) and are going to leave with UHauls or stay and resort to war.
Since the book came out, more and more are leaving states like CA and NY to go to FL and others. But tens of millions are next to each other and intensely hate each other.
One idea of mine: People are so lazy they won't do anything but complain and suffer.
That half are the democrats. That’s for sure.
honestly, democrats tend to be awful workers in my opinion. Very demanding for little work.
Saves me the trouble of firing your stupid ass. The unabideable.
The Obama effect.
I live in MA. I can’t swing a dead cat at work without hitting a Democrat.
And I’ve been fine with it.
What they mean is...DEMOCRATS (the tolerant ones) will not work with anybody who doesn’t agree with them.
I worked at Boeing for almost 21 years.
On hours discussion about politics or religion was more or less forbidden.
That changed which is why I left the company.
I worked there to build the best aircraft in the world, not
serve some political parties agenda, regardless of the party.
I have no liberal “friends” and I don’t talk to liberal family members.
I hate stupid people.
Let them try it for year and get back to me.
A lot of people reveal their inner blowhard when answerring surveys. It is like those polls that show that 70% of New Yorkers want to move. Well, maybe, but not enough, because most don’t pull the trigger. If you are the sole breadwinner and find yourself unemployed, your tolerance adjusts as needed.
“ And 90% of that half are leftists”
I assume it is, but did the survey do the breakdown?
This excerpt doesn’t say.
