  • Nautically speaking, What is the difference between an “allision” and a “colllison”?

    United States Code ^ | March 23, 2024 | Jones Act, USCA
The nautical definition of an “allision “ is “the running of one ship upon an object that is stationary., such as a bridge, oil rig, or anchored ship. The distinction between it and a ‘collision’ is that in the latter, both objects (then, generally ships) are moving. Under Maritime law, the moving ship is presumed at fault in an allision. Further, under the Jones Act, persons injured in an allision are automatically due compensation, as are their families, Given the accident today, I figured Freeper vocabulary needed expansion.

Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of US Vice President Kamala Harris, is taking part in a public fundraising campaign for Gaza, an expose published by the New York Post on Saturday found. She neglected to mention the Hamas attack that took place on October 7 and the Israeli children killed in it, instead merely writing that the campaign was “supporting urgent relief for Gaza’s children.”

BAYTOWN, Texas - One person died and 13 others were injured when someone opened fire at an outdoor vigil in Baytown on Sunday evening, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office says. Authorities say the shooting occurred around 6:40 p.m. as about 50 people were gathered in the 1400 block of N. Market Loop at a vigil for a recent homicide victim from Baytown. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzales, a vehicle traveling toward Thompson drove by the location, and someone began shooting. Fourteen people were injured. Three of them were transported to a trauma hospital by Life Flight. According to the sheriff’s...

I was falsely accused of having an affair and fathering a child with a woman I never met. A WOMAN I NEVER MET. I am a reasonably locally-prominent person. I had the misfortune of being on the front page of a local paper one day when a lady I'd never met gave birth. I gave a lot of money to a school. She saw me on the paper. She saw I was wealthy and reasonably important. So when the clerk came in with the birth certificate form to fill out, she put my name. She went on welfare and concocted...

I wonder when the Trump backers will realize they’ve been had. The 2016 GOP campaign has been overwhelmed by Donald Trump’s celebrity persona, by the can’t-take-your-eyes-off-it appearances where he might say or do anything — and “anything” includes expletives, incitements, and assorted idiocies that would have been disqualifying in the bygone times of, oh, five or ten minutes ago. But Trump is not the real story of the campaign. The real story is the Republican base’s rejection of the Republican establishment — i.e., the party leaders, prominent pols, lobbyists, and donors who make up the GOP component of the Washington...

Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey says he cast his presidential vote for Ted Cruz, describing the Texas senator as having a deep understanding of the issues and "concrete" ideas on the economy and national security. "He's a solid conservative," Toomey said this morning outside his polling place in Zionsville. "We don't agree on everything, but having served with him in the Senate, I know Ted pretty well and I think he's got a real, real viable shot of beating Hillary Clinton in the fall." While Donald Trump leads among Republicans in public polls of state voters, Toomey noted that the...

Donald Trump, the undoubted Republican front-runner after winning the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries, is — there is no way to sugarcoat this — a liar, an ignoramus, and a moral abomination. I have never previously described any presidential candidates in such harsh terms — not even close — but there is no other way to accurately describe him. There simply isn't. This past week, the week culminating in his big South Carolina win, provided yet more evidence, as if any were needed, of the validity of all these words to describe him. Start with the lying. Trump has...

After due research, this is my voting list. I came back special to Midland for this vote, so want to make sure I am correct: Would appreciate comments and concerns: 1. Senate --- Stovall (close second, Stockman) The Great Cornholio is a disgrace with what he said and has done to Cruz. He's got to go. 2. Governor --- Greg Abbot 3. Lt. Governor -- Dan Patrick (Do worst has to go) 4. Attorney General ---- Gen Paxton 5. Comptroller --- Harvey Hildebran, hands down (Met Glenn Hegar -- VERY unimpressed.) 6. Commisioner GLO --- David Watts. George P Bush...

I have been out of the country for some time, so I am confused as to who to vote for to take the place of Kay Barely Texan who is (thank G-d) finally leaving the Senate. So far it looks like Ted Cruz is my choice, but I don't know. I can tell David Dewhurst is the establishment choice, and he's been running sleazy ads like a typical RINO. I also am pretty underwhelmed by his record in the state government, in that he pushed a stealth corporate income tax. That said, I can be persuaded. What say you?

I was recently back in Texas to oversee some business. I shared some time with George P. Bush very recently. Nice kid. Pushing a real estate investment fund for distressed properties in Houston-Austin-Dallas Texas. Long story short, the machine (to the extent it still exists) is clearly supporting Romney. I doubt this surprises anyone, but I figured you'd want to know.

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris early in the morning . The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine , through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur. No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit. The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The...

MIDLAND - NewsWest 9 has just learned that a Midland ISD teacher has been arrested and charged with having an Improper Educator/Student Relationship. On Thursday, MISD officials contacted the Midland Police Department after a teacher reported possible inappropriate activity between a student and a teacher. 23-year-old Kenzi Friday was arrested after an investigation. She is accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old male student. The relationship took place between the start of the school year through the beginning of April at a Midland home. MISD says that Friday submitted her resignation Friday morning. "These are very serious allegations and...

Scientists have found that the pleasure women get from making love is directly linked to the size of their partner’s bank balance. They found that the wealthier a man is, the more frequently his partner has orgasms. “Women’s orgasm frequency increases with the income of their partner,” said Dr Thomas Pollet, the Newcastle University psychologist behind the research. He believes the phenomenon is an “evolutionary adaptation” that is hard-wired into women, driving them to select men on the basis of their perceived quality.

    Ludwig von Mises Institute ^ | October 1998 | Ralph R. Reiland
In 1944, Ludwig von Mises published one of his least-known masterworks: Omnipotent Government: The Rise of the Total State and Total War. Drawing on his prewar experience in Vienna, watching the rise of the National Socialists in Germany (the Nazis), who would eventually take over his own homeland, he set out to draw parallels between the Russian and German experience with socialism. . . . The difference between the systems, wrote Mises, is that the German pattern "maintains private ownership of the means of production and keeps the appearance of ordinary prices, wages, and markets." But in fact the government...

Flipped through Atlas Shrugged last night again. I would seriously like AM radio and some folks to get behind a serious tax revolt. Just don't pay taxes. The tax base is made of Republicans. If we don't pay, they don't play. It would have to be a mass effort to work (and to keep people out of jail).

I have just been banned from Digg. Oddly (for me), I was consistently polite, avoided anything resembling personal attacks (even when attacked), and the like. What did I do? I defended Israel. I defended Conservatism. I debunked global warming. I pointed out credibility issues of Obama. This, apparently, is "an abuse of Digg's policies." And I am serious --- I was WAY more toned down on Digg than here --- and was getting quite a following, and made some converts, I think. Which is why I was banned.
