Now that most of the flood waters in the Atlanta suburbs have receded the residents are struggling to find what, if anything, they can salvalge from their homes. Many of the homes weren't in a flood zone and so the owners weren't required to carry flood insurance. This isn't a case of people building homes in flood prone areas. This event was unprecedented in its proportions. The official federal reponse has been a phone call from President Obama to Governor Perdue in which the President expressed his condolences. We've also been assured that Mr. Obama's people are watching the situation....

Tonight Micheal Moore was interviewed from a Traverse City, Michigan bowling Alley by CNN's Larry King. Early in the discussion Micheal Moore asserted that there were some people (white) who would not vote for Obama just because he is black. And how many black's could we see in this bowling alley? Can you say zero?

Florida Sen. Mel Martinez, co-author of a bill to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, has been picked by White House strategist Karl Rove to be general chairman of the Republican National Committee, RNC officials confirmed yesterday. Some RNC members greeted the news as another example of White House cronyism, reminiscent of President Bush's attempt to name his personal friend and general counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, a nomination withdrawn in response to outrage from the party's conservative supporters. While the chairman is elected by the 165-member RNC -- which next meets in Washington in January -- the committee...

Ramadi, Iraq Terrorist-infested Ramadi in the wild west of Iraq is for U.S. troops the meanest place in the country, "the graveyard of the Americans" as graffiti around town boast. There is no better place to observe American troops and the fledgling Iraqi army in combat. That's why I came. When military public affairs asked where I wanted to be embedded, I told them, "the redder, the better" (red means hostile). So they packed me off to Camp Corregidor in eastern Ramadi with the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). The 506th's official motto is "Currahee,"...

RACE CARD in Jefferson case! Democratic leaders have decided to force Rep. William Jefferson off the Ways and Means Committee. The Congressional Black Caucus is accusing Pelosi & Co. of a racially-motivated double standard because Al Mollohan is still on the Appropriations committee. Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) warns that this is "about to blow up in their face"! READ MORE

According to a close friend who has recieved an advance copy of Ann Coulter's "Godless" says that this book is going to cause a firestorm of controversy. Keep in mind that this comes from a conservative journalist. Get some tidbits from Donkey Cons a website for my friend's own book. REALCLEARPOLITICS BATTLEGROUND POLLS I know everyone is excited about Bush's gains in the national polls, but what counts is the Electoral College, and that means the "battleground states." RealClearPolitics.com updates these as soon as they become available. Some advice: 1. Pay close attention to the survey dates. Many of the poll results shown are days old by the time they're posted. Keep that in mind. 2. All polls are not created equal. Zogby, Mason-Dixon, Gallup -- those are among the most reliable. SurveyUSA and American Research Group are squirrely. If you look for "all results" for a state, you can...

During the debate, Kerry said: "There are some 600-plus tons of unsecured material still in the former Soviet Union and Russia. At the rate that the president is currently securing that, it will take 13 years to get it. "I did a lot of work on this. I wrote a book about it several years ago, maybe six or seven years ago, called, 'The New War,' which saw the difficulties of this international criminal network. And back then, we intercepted a suitcase in a Middle Eastern country with nuclear materials in it, and the black market sale price was about...

It was a great idea for President Bush to send Sophia a new poster. But how about this: 1. Bush schedules a rally in Huntington, W.Va. 2. Bush introduces the Parlock family and brings them onstage. 3. Bush hands Sophia a new Bush-Cheney sign. 4. Bush then says, "Now, Sophia, some people say the man who tore up your other sign was a member of a labor union. I don't want you to think all union members are like that. As a matter of fact, some of my strongest supporters are union members, and I'd like to bring out one...

The Democratic Underground crowd is claiming that this guy Parlock has pulled a hoax. They claim the guy in the backwards cap is actually Parlock's older son. Any WEST VIRGINIA REPUBLICANS perhaps have any background on this subject? Anybody out there that would recognize Parlock's son?

CBS and Rather think they can stonewall their use of bogus Guard documents to smear Bush. Are FREEPERS Going To Let Them Get Away With This? Somebody needs to print up a GIANT check --say, 3 feet by 7 feet -- like they give the lottery winners. Make this a personal check from Dan Rather "one MEEEEELLION dollars," payable to "Kerry For President." Now, print up some signs: "IT'S AUTHENTIC! TRUST US!" etc. Get the picture? The point is that Rather's bogus story based on bogus documents amounts to CBS trying to make a HUGE GIFT to Democrats. Get together a...

Hey, Freepers: I don't know who PhotoShopped that fake "2nd photo" of Kerry and Fonda at the antiwar rally, but you should know that you came within AN EYELASH of causing a huge embarassment. Thank goodness Raoul made a phone call, so Kristinn just got a call from somebody who is a longtime press friend of FR who was about to go nationwide with the "2nd photo" story. You've got no idea how close this was to being a train wreck. I am told NewsMax actually got suckered on this. The same veterans who had circulated the original Fonda-Kerry photo...

<p>The director of the National Institutes of Health said his agency will continue to fund sex research, including studies involving pornography and prostitution that have been criticized by House Republicans.</p>
<p>"I fully support NIH's continued investment in research on human sexuality," Dr. Elia A. Zerhouni wrote in a letter to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, that bypassed the Republican committee chairmen who oversee the agency.</p>

Relative: Jones is ‘crazy’ By Lauren Gregory Rome News-Tribune Staff Writer Jerry William Jones’ trail of crimes starts in the late 1980s and includes convictions in Floyd, Gordon, Clayton, Fulton and Henry counties. Most were theft, shoplifting or traffic charges that ended with some time in prison and decades of probation. Jones also lost his mother and stepfather in the ValuJet crash in the Florida Everglades in 1996, which left him with a sizable settlement that relatives said disappeared in no time. And while relatives say they saw hints of violence and heard his threats over the years, they never...

<p>The Pilgrims were brave Christians who risked everything to gain religious freedom in the New World. Or they were fanatical European interlopers, guilty of "genocide" against American Indians. Multiculturalism has taken its toll on the reputation of the small band of Protestant separatists who landed at Plymouth Rock in November 1620.</p>

<p>A devout Seventh-day Adventist, Desmond Doss wanted to serve his country but chose not to bear arms, so he joined the Army's Medical Corps. The Lynchburg, Va., native served with the 77th Division on Guam and Leyte in 1944. On Okinawa, in the late spring of 1945, his battalion was assaulting a jagged escarpment rising up 400 feet whose summit was commanded by well-entrenched Japanese forces.</p>

<p>In 1974, Danny Holland started doing muscle-building exercises. At first, working out with a spring-loaded isometric gizmo he'd bought by mail order was just a hobby for the wiry 15-year-old. Then one day he looked at a bodybuilding magazine and saw a massive, gap-toothed Austrian named Arnold Schwarzenegger.</p>

She's a Reagan The most popular names in America? A little research reveals a trend that will make Republicans proud. Last year, according to the Social Security Administration, a whopping 24,262 girls were named Emily, while 30,122 boys were named Jacob. But the name "Reagan" is becoming increasingly popular, too — for baby girls. The name of the 40th president of the United States has seen steady gains in the past decade. In 1993, for instance, Reagan ranked 998th, when only 202 baby girls were given the name. Last year, 1,603 American girls shared Reagan, making it the nation's 201st...

<p>After hearing West Virginia Sen. Robert C. Byrd's comments about President Bush and his visit to our returning sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, I feel the need to express my opinion.</p>
<p>I am tired of hearing petty complaints and nitpicking from those who are paid more than a living wage with my tax dollars. I do not envision the president to be a desk-bound president, and I felt pride surge through my veins when I saw him greeting our young men and women coming home. The joy I saw written on their faces was worth much more than the cost of the trip.</p>
