I am currently in the process of ditching Dish satellite cable and switching to all online. Part of my motivation is to defund CNN et al. and part because it is really expensive. My Dish DVR has a lot of movies on it I would like to save. They are (apparently) in Linux format. I can transfer the movies to a flash drive OK, but then I cannot read the flash drive on any other computer (all Windows). Can anyone tell me how I can save these movies so I can watch them in the future? My online search only talked...

I keep getting these extremely liberal petitions from change.org and they are finally getting to me. So, I decided to use the left's weapons against themselves and started my own petition called "Gut the EPA" directed at Mssrs Trump and Pruitt. It turns out that to make the petition visible, I need 5 more signatories. I have no idea how to do that, so I thought I could get some help here. The text of the petition is below (it's a slow day on the homefront): The Environmental Protection Agency started out as a reasonable response to serious pollution issues...

Not The Onion. Following a scathing speech against Trump's nominee for Attorney General, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said Senator Elizabeth Warren had "impugned the motives and conduct of our colleague from Alabama," violating the so-called 'Rule 19'. By a vote of 49-43, Senator Warren was then barred from speaking on the floor until Senator Sessions nomination debate is complete (likely tomorrow evening). Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), who was presiding over the the Senate during the Massachusetts Democrat's speech - who at times was repeating words being said to him by GOP Senate floor staff - initially interrupted Warren to...

According to emerging reports from Yemen, a surface-to-surface missile fired by the Yemeni Army has hit the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The missile was launched on Sunday evening, and sources in Yemen have described the missile test as successful. It is unclear exactly what missile was used, and casualty figures, if any, are yet to be reported. Saudi Arabia intervened military in the Yemeni Conflict in 2015, leading a coalition of almost 10 Middle Eastern countries. In October 2016, a Yemeni activist warned that Riyadh was the next target for a Yemeni missile attack. Update: More information has emerged, suggesting that...

Demonstrating just how ideologically alligned with the Obama administration was the entire US State Department, moments ago the WaPo reported that "the entire senior level of management officials resigned Wednesday, part of an ongoing mass exodus of senior foreign service officers who don’t want to stick around for the Trump era." The mass resignation took place as Rex Tillerson was inside the State Department’s headquarters in Foggy Bottom on Wednesday, taking meetings and getting the lay of the land. According to WaPo's Josh Rogin who suddenly has no more senior level sources left at State: "I reported Wednesday morning that...

Amid rumors (climate change site removal), denials (gag orders), and melting snowflakes (see social media), AP reports the Trump administration is mandating that EPA scientific studies and data must undergo review by political staff before being released to the public. As NPR reported earlier, scientists at the Environmental Protection Agency who want to publish or present their scientific findings likely will need to have their work reviewed on a "case by case basis" before it can be disseminated, according to a spokesman for the agency's transition team. In an interview Tuesday evening with NPR, Doug Ericksen, the head of communications...

President Donald Trump signed three executive actions this morning, killing the Trans-Pacific partnership, instituting a federal hiring freeze, and restoring the Mexico City policy, which bans federal funds from being used to fund abortions. Trump senior advisors stood and watched Trump sign the executive orders as senior advisor Reince Priebus announced each order as it was signed. Trump specified that the hiring freeze for federal workers would not apply to the military.

Last summer (July, I think), I post "Proud Papa Alert" to tell people that my son had decided to enlist in the US Marines. Several current and former military personnel chastised me, saying he was not really a US Marine until he got through basic training. Well, he did. He graduated yesterday, Friday January 13, 2017 under both a full moon and a beautiful sunny sky at Parris Island, USMCRD. This his platoon out on the parade field during graduation. His was one of 8 graduating platoons, comprising some 700 brand new US Marines. Here he is with his little...

Now for something REALLY important: I want to get rid of my satellite dish and switch to internet streaming. I have no idea how to do that. I want: old movies, old TV shows, select new shows, News. What about Fire Stik TV? D-Link? I already have access to Amazon Prime, what would I need to cancel cable and still have the idiot box for what I like? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Former New York Sen. Al D'Amato was removed from a delayed New York-bound JetBlue flight on Monday after trying to rally passengers against the flight crew. JetBlue flight 1002 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport was originally supposed to depart at 1:42 p.m. ET, but six delays pushed the departure time to just after 8:00 p.m. Once the plane boarded, the pilots informed passengers that 10 of them needed to move from the front to the back of the plane due to weight distribution.

When President-elect Donald Trump says “America First” too few actually understand the severity of his determination to accomplish that goal. Leverage, or more accurately creating leverage, is a business art that Donald Trump has uniquely honed for decades. There are trillions of dollars in play. Against the backdrop of a known position by President-elect Trump toward the business and financial monopolization by Amazon and Jeff Bezos, President Trump publicly brings Alibaba CEO Jack Ma to the camera’s in Trump Tower. All except the business media will probably skip over the larger play within this epic display of 3-D leverage creation....

Agree with his proposed policies or not, it's difficult to argue that Trump is delivering on his promises to the autoworkers of the Midwest who single-handedly voted him into the White House. Before even taking office, the mere threat of import tariffs has caused Ford to cancel the construction of a $1.6 billion new facility in Mexico, and has automotive CEO's from Toyota to Chrysler walking on eggshells as they carefully try to flaunt all of the capital investments they're making in U.S.-based facilities. While likely secretly hoping for the status quo, Fiat Chrysler's U.S. CEO, Sergio Marchionne, admitted earlier...

Having been fully briefed on the "intelligence" proving Russians 'hacked' the election - because how else could Hillary Clinton have lost? - president-elect Trump is starting to shift the narrative this morning to expose the establishment's blinkered warmongery for missing the bigger picture that could be possible...(Trump's tweets, cut n'paste): Follow Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump Having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. Only "stupid" people, or fools, would think that it is bad! Two and half thousand Europeans plan to march into Aleppo waving white flags in a three month long, 2,000 mile demonstration against the civil war taking place in Syria. This year, like last, has been characterised by the massive flow of people northwards through Europe, many of them Syrians fleeing the bombs of Assad and the opposition factions. But a group of Europeans has decided to make the trek in the other direction in order to bring an end to the war, now in its fifth year. “We’re carrying these white flags to let the whole world know our message:...

Right after the election there was talk here on FR of a Freeper Inauguration party in DC on January 20th. I am sure it is way too late to reserve a venue now, but I would like to know if this idea ever went anywhere. I would love to take my freshly minted US Marine son to it. The 20th falls pretty much right in the middle of his 10 day leave. Anyone know of such an event? Thanks.
