<p>Dayton, Ohio, Freepers - this lovely little girl was killed in a tragic accident this past week. These folks are friends of a co-worker -- they are salt of the earth, great parents. As the medical and transport bills are already astronomical, I thought I would spread the word about a benefit bake sale.</p>

Hi everyone. My 78 year old mother fell this past week, severely breaking her hip at the femural head (where the abductor muscles attach) and her shoulder in two places. They did surgery (rod and pins) for the hip, but are slinging and swathing the arm/shoulder. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

We've all seen 'em. You know the ones. The folks who walk into the local big-box garden center looking to fulfill their dreams of growing 4 pound tomatoes or blue ribbon-worthy pumpkins. Whatever their motivation - from a yearning for simplicity, a desire to eat more organically, or frugality - they've now decided to put in a garden. And could there be anything more inviting to a salesperson than the sight of the new gardener staring at the mountains of plants and supplies? Whether they grew up on a farm or could rival Billy Crystal for the lead role in...

Just a quick prayer request. I've had ongoing, severe health problems that culminated in a total hysterectomy this past Monday. The doctor was unable to complete the surgery laparascopically, and I now have a lovely 7" incision in addition to 4 lap incisions. He also found even more scarring and damage from endometriosis, as well as more and rather large adhesions. I'm having lots of pain and swelling. I always appreciate the prayers of my FRiends, brothers and sisters...and ask for them now.

I was just wondering if anyone else is dealing with endometriosis and/or pcos. I've been looking for support groups elsewhere, but most seem to be (excusing the expression) dying out in popularity. I'm not a new sufferer, but am newly diagnosed wih stage IV endo...and would love to connect with others fighting the same fight. For those others to be FReepers would be even better!

I'm having surgery at 1 on Thursday. They're doing several procedures, including a D&C as well as looking around for the source of pain previously unidentifiable. Hoping they'll find what's wrong.
  • Homeschoolers: What's your favorite History curriculum?

Hello homeschoolers! I'm in the market for history curriculum. Previously we've done aBeka US History...son is in 5th/6th grade and I am feeling the need for something more comprehensive. Just for fun, I've ordered the "Drive thru History" Soldiers/Jamestown DVD and love it, but it is hardly a comprehensive curriculum. What do you currently use or have you used in the past?

Hi Freepers! Sorry to post, but I've been sick a long time and my brain is so foggy. While sick, I made an amateur's mistake on eBay. I bought some language software recommended for Win 95 or 96. I can't get it to install on my laptop running XP. There is plenty of space available. I think there are 8 MB required, I have several hundred gig available. I keep getting the error, "Setup is unable to run an intermediate file needed to proceed with the installation. Error 104." I'd really like to be able to use this software...could anyone...

Okay, FReepers, I have been looking for this movie for years and would love to find it for "he who has everything". Only problem is, we've both forgotten the title. Me because it has been a while, me because...well...I'm me. lol All I really remember is that this fella keeps dreaming that someone is trying to give him a message and keeps saying "This is not a dream." If I remember correctly, later in the movie it is revealed that the person appearing is him. It isn't a dream, he has traveled through time to give himself a warning.

Today - on my day off - I'm washing clothes, washing dishes, organizing, cleaning, planting, entertaining, sweating and more. And griping. Oh yes, I was griping about it. Then it occurred to me that those clothes I'm washing -- they're ours. Mine and my family's. We own them. They don't belong to my employer or worse yet, my owner. They're unique clothes - chosen to fit and compliment someone in my family. They're not oppressively hot with only a window for the eyes. They're weren't given us because we had none. Even better, they don't bear the stripes of a...

Okay guys, while I applaud the entrepreneurial (sp?) spirit of the young men down the street, while they wash cars for folks they keep their stereos going. Surprise of all surprises, they never play a lovely concerto or opera. They play ghetto "music". All you can hear is bass and the occasional obscenity. Because I am an old, um, severely un-tanned woman, I plan to play music as I wash the minivan, weed the flowerbed, walk to the mailbox, whatever...whenever they are playing their music. That's right folks - a regular Battle of the Bands! Keeping in mind they would...

Sharing an e-mail my precious friend sent Dr. Dobson today...along with a link to the sermon that started it all. PLEASE, PLEASE, dear reader -- listen and share! The time is dwindling... Hello Mr. Dobson, I know that John McCain was not the candidate of your choice. But as a christian believer ... I beg you to listen to this http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?sermonID=11208124557 So many people follow you. So many believers don't understand, but you do. Our nation is hurting and there are only a few days left. Mind you this is not a political propaganda, this is a biblical issue. As...

  • Please help me find a pic for a Veterans' Day Class (found - thank you!)

Hi all! I'm looking for a specific picture to print and display as I teach a homeschool class on Veterans' Day. We're doing the class in October in preparation for building a VDay float in November. The pic I want is of an elderly veteran (probably WWII) hugging an injured Marine (in dress uniform) - the Marine has lost an arm and has a hook/prosthetic device. It is a wonderfully illustrative pic for those who have sacrificed - young and old. If anyone could find this pic for me, Freepers can. And yes,I have googled but am exhausted and was...
  • Help a FReeper: What do you know about Peter L. Berger (so-called Christian Phychologist)?

    07/04/2008 6:27:43 AM PDT · by kimmie7 · 18 replies · 76+ views
I'm really tired, so the formatting may be off. I have a really good reason for trying to find out more about this guy, but I need to research more before I share that. LOL This is from a book review about Berger's latest book: Berger’s theological method is reminiscent of the ancient pseudonymous writer Dionysius the Areopagite who asked the question "what are the affirmative theologies and what are the negative?" Below I have excerpted some of the taken-for-granted negative theological notions discussed by Berger, followed by the reasons they ingratiate him. Religion is supposed to be necessary as...

Help?! Is there a Spanish speaking FReeper out there who would help me in my time of need? I need 2 (very short) paragraphs translated. I had an associate handle it, but she faxed it instead of e-mailing it and only part is legible. I have done the Babelfish thing, but this is for an Auction brochure I am designing and I don't want their stilted translation. Oh, and before you attack, I'm a long time FReeper, have never been zotted, rarely post new threads, and a moose once bit my sister. I can FRmail the text. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
  • Question About Biloxi/Gulfport, MS (Semi-Vanity, I suppose you could call it.)

I rarely post articles much less vanities, but we're planning a trip to my mother's other home in Vicksburg, MS, in March. Hubby was thinking maybe we'd drive down to Gulfport or Biloxi for a day or two. My questions are these: I know the area was devastated during hurricaine Katrina, are things back to normal? Semi-normal? What is there to do there? Besides casinos. We'll have our 8 year old son with us. Any recommendations? I can look online at places like Virtual Tourist, but it's hard to know how to plan when there is a chance the restaurant...
