RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Gov. Ralph Northam presented his reopening guidelines for Virginia today during his update on the coronavirus outbreak in the commonwealth. Northam said the state will have three phases to open up. Phase I will allow businesses to re-open with limitations. For example, people can go to the hair salon but will need to make an appointment. Also, restaurants can reopen but will need to limit their seating to allow for social distancing. He said phase I will likely last three weeks and won’t happen until at least next week.

Chinese researchers at Beijing’s only declared BSL-4 (Bio Safety Level 4) lab, the Wuhan Virology Institute, have been publishing papers in the scientific literature for years now, explaining exactly how they were manipulating the genetic material of various coronavirus strains. They were not just looking for prophylactic drugs or vaccines to counter existing virus pathogens either. No, in the lab, they deliberately created new viruses by combining genetic material from pre-existing viruses in ways that are extremely unlikely to happen naturally—even by way of the typically active mutations that occur with RNA (ribonucleic acid) viruses like coronaviruses. Then, whether on...

A local clinic and state officials are evaluating whether a patient who had recently traveled to West Africa and appeared at clinic offices in South Richmond Monday is at risk of Ebola infection. “We immediately put the person in isolation and immediately called the health department,” said Julie Bilodeau of CrossOver Ministry, a faith-based free clinic whose patient population includes many immigrants. A sign posted on the clinic's front door Monday afternoon read: "Clinic closed for emergency.” It was not immediately clear what precautions clinic workers took in handling the patient.

Two African-American knockout-style attackers in Charlottesville were immediately released on their own recognizance and only charged with a misdemeanor after an assault on a man and woman in a downtown shopping mall on December 20. Police Chief Longo, who arrested the assailants, said there is evidence of the male victim losing a tooth and suffering soft tissue damage but he would need evidence of more serious injuries to raise the charges. The injuries were far more serious than that according to the victims. In the meantime, these two assailants didn’t even have to post bail. The police department never used...

A Hopewell circuit court judge has ordered that a Marine veteran detained over anti-government Facebook posts be released from a state psychiatric hospital.
-
A Chesterfield County man and Marine veteran is in a local hospital after being picked up by federal and local law enforcement officials concerned about threatening Internet postings. Brandon J. Raub, 26, was in Hopewell's John Randolph Medical Center on Saturday. "I'm currently in John Randolph in the psychiatric ward being held against my will," Raub said in a telephone interview. Reports of his detention Thursday have gone viral on the Internet. Raub said Secret Service, FBI and Chesterfield police officers came to his home Thursday. I am not fat and I don't drink sugared soda. If the Mayor of New York decided to regulate portion sizes for sugared drinks tomorrow it wouldn't affect my life in the least -the idea is typical of the Mandatory Betterment class, and I expect nothing less. It's all the people who are so gosh-darned impressed with the Bold Initiative who rankle up the humours. Let's get one thing clear: when the TV talk-show people lavish praise on the idea, it has nothing to do with some abstract notion of the costs of obesity. They just don’t like fat people....

As many of you know, The Last Federalist had previously endorsed Chris Perkins for Congress. However, after much consideration, the Editorial Board is rescinding that endorsement..... .... What is even more disconcerting is the lack of a ground game by the Perkins campaign. Whether it is their voter identification program or the lack of signs in the median, the Perkins campaign has been unable to prove that they have the organization and campaign strategy necessary to win in November. The fact that there is a growing concern that Ken Vaughn might actually win on June 12th, shows how weak and...

NoVa freepers in Virginia's 11th congressional district - you have a choice to restore VA-11 to common sense conservative leadership. Ken Vaughn is a small business owner who is working to unseat Gerry Connelly. Ken's number one priority is the debt and spending. He is pro-life and pro-second amendment. We need your help. We need folks to help knock on doors, make phone calls - you name it and we can use your help. We can use financial support as well since we all know that money is essential to running any campaign. We need your vote on June 12th....

Political newcomer Ken Vaughn is betting big on his own run for Congress. The first-time candidate believes so strongly in the need for a new brand of leaders in Washington that, after careful consideration with his wife, he's cashed in a large chunk of his 401(k) in order to invest $100,000 in his campaign. "It's not nearly enough to win, but it's enough to get started," he said. "It takes a lot of money to run for office, but that's what it takes and like any businessman or whatever, you have to do what the job takes." A traffic engineer...
