The FBI said Saturday it is helping Mexican authorities investigate the fatal shooting of two Arizona women in the Mexican state of Sonora. The Attorney General’s Office of Sonora said both victims, ages 72 and 82, were found shot dead inside an overturned pickup truck Friday morning on the Sonoyta-Caborca highway. Officials said an abandoned Ford F-150 pickup truck in the town of Quitovac was connected to the shooting after authorities discovered a stash of AK-47-style rifles, loads of ammo and ballistic vests inside the vehicle.

Dear Keir Starmer, I'm calling out the Fascist United Kingdom government for its tone-deaf and totally inappropriate response to the disorder on the streets of Southport and the rest of this country. I'm calling for peace. Could you actually listen for once? (more in video). Open Letter to Keir Starmer
  • Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin Mandates Paper Ballots for November Election

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) has issued an executive order to require all votes for the upcoming November election be cast with a paper ballot. Executive Order 35, signed on Wednesday, codifies the election security procedures put into place during Youngkin’s administration. The order outlines several election integrity requirements, including a “documented chain of custody” wherein ballots will be tracked through “every step of the process,” and that no voting machines will be used — just paper ballot-counting machines that are not connected to the internet. EO 35 also instructs the state’s Department of Elections to remove “non-citizens who may...
  • Harris is A Gaffe-Prone Leftist. Why Didn’t Anyone Challenge Her?

    American Enterprise Institute ^ | July 24, 2024 | Marc A. Thiessen
That was fast! On Sunday, after President Biden announced he would not run for a second term, Vice President Harris declared her intention to “earn and win” the Democratic nomination. In less than 24 hours, she had apparently secured all the delegates needed to lock up the nomination. Which raises a question: Why did no one challenge her? After all, Harris is undeniably vulnerable. She ran a catastrophic campaign for president four years ago, flaming out before even reaching the Iowa caucuses. Her public approval has hovered around that of Biden, who is himself one of the most unpopular presidents...

Young people appear to be flocking to the Republican Party, according to the figures in a new poll from the Pew Research Center that surveyed Americans' party affiliation. The National Public Opinion Reference Survey (NPORS) published by Pew Research on Tuesday has drawn significant attention from analysts because it shows the GOP leading among those under 30. There are just four months until the presidential election where former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, is hoping to defeat President Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate.
  • Cavers find dog stuck in 50-foot cavern, feed her salami, rescue her

“She was shivering, and she was cold,” said one of the cavers who executed the three-hour rescue. “She clearly had been there for several days.” Jesse Rochette is an experienced caver and has stumbled upon many things below ground. He’s seen glow-worms, salamanders, giant crickets, fossils, bat colonies and crystals. But Rochette was shocked by what he and a small group of cavers found this week deep inside a cave in Giles County, Va.: a wounded dog trapped 50-feet below ground. The first thing Rochette did was offer the stranded pup a slice of salami. She snatched it right up.

Fake studies have flooded the publishers of top scientific journals, leading to thousands of retractions and millions of dollars in lost revenue. The biggest hit has come to Wiley, a 217-year-old publisher based in Hoboken, N.J., which Tuesday announced that it was closing 19 journals, some of which were infected by large-scale research fraud. In the past two years, Wiley has retracted more than 11,300 papers that appeared compromised, according to a spokesperson, and closed four journals. It isn't alone: At least two other publishers have retracted hundreds of suspect papers each. Several others have pulled smaller clusters of bad...

He was 98. Corman died May 9 at his home in Santa Monica, Calif., surrounded by family members, the family confirmed to Variety. “His films were revolutionary and iconoclastic, and captured the spirit of an age. Terry Clark Hughes Jr. is the 39-year-old suspect who opened fire at the scene where four law enforcement officers in Charlotte, North Carolina, were shot and killed on April 29, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Hughes was not the only shooter, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said in a news conference. “When they approached Hughes,” officers “were met by gunfire and returned the gunfire, striking” Hughes, who was found deceased in a yard, Jennings said. Officers then received “additional gunfire from inside of the residence,” he said. It was not immediately clear whose bullets struck which officers. Police have not...

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — According to a receptionist at Allegheny Wood Products on Monday, the company was waiting for lawyers to release a public statement about its closing that will reportedly end roughly 800 jobs. State Economic Development Secretary Mitch Carmichael told WV MetroNews that the decision was “very sudden and unfortunate,” the news organization reported. Very obviously I agree with the analysis: There is a massive amount of people and institutions jumping from one grift to the next to the next. But that’s not necessarily new: Especially when it comes to investments it’s just natural to follow the hype, to try to ride the wave wherever it leads you to get the next payday. Everybody can probably name a few people who have embraced that paradigm fully. People who effortlessly shift from “web3 is the future” to “I will explain to you why ‘AI’ will replace you”, people who get fame by talking about self...
