The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the ACLU of North Carolina Legal Foundation (ACLU-NCLF) has announced plans to challenge North Carolina's ban on marriage for same-sex couples. The civil liberties group says it will amend a federal lawsuit filed against the state last year on behalf of six same-sex couples and their children. The lawsuit challenges North Carolina's ban on second parent adoptions. The ACLU is asking North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper to agree to allow an additional claim challenging the state's ban on marriage for same-sex couples to be added to Fisher-Borne v. Smith, a lawsuit filed...

RALEIGH, N.C. — A civil liberties group is suing a North Carolina county that uses Christian prayers to bless its meetings. The complaint filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court by the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina names the Rowan County Board of Commissioners as plaintiffs. The lawsuit accuses the board of violating the First Amendment provision ordaining the separation of church and state by routinely praying to Jesus Christ to start its meetings.

I thought I would just share a thought. All these outrageous proposals such as forcing gun owners to buy extra insurance, backdoor confiscation through universal background checks, and other vile crap I find infuriating. I think those of us who oppose these things should come up with our own proposals that the enemy would find completely unacceptable, because the best defense is a good offense. So, here is a proposal I have for an act of Congress: "The 2nd Amendment Protection Act of 2013 Resolved that the 2nd Amendment represents a fundamental freedom, this act hereby declares that any attempt...

I recently made my final installment on my NRA Life Membership. Yeah, I made a big payment, mostly because I could, and they sent me the mantelpiece statue they offered. And its not a bad one- nice American Eagle on it, nice bright US flag, etc. And then I turn in over and find a big sticker saying "MADE IN CHINA".....Sheesh, can't they at least find something made in America?
  • House beats abortion rules veto, falls short on voter IDs

    07/27/2011 7:47:03 AM PDT · by GenXteacher · 18 replies
Legislation placing additional restrictions on abortions moved within one step of becoming law after the state House voted Tuesday to override Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue's veto. Meanwhile, the House failed in its effort to override Perdue's veto of legislation that would have required voters to present photo identification before casting their ballots.

I noticed on the Uberti website that they are offering an 1873 carbine (19" barrel) in .44 Magnum. I have not seen any information other than that. I was wondering if anyone had one, or knew of an article about them. I kinda like the idea of this gun in .44 Mag myself....if they have in fact pulled it off.
  • Vanity:Is the Health Care Bill a Bill of Attainder?

My first vanity post, I guess. I'm not a lawyer- just a high school history teacher. But I had a thought the other day and I thought it worth sharing. A Bill of Attainder is a law that basically declares people guilty without benefit of due process- no judicial procedure. Does the health care bill not meet this criteria? It essentially authorizes a penalty without benefit of trial- the IRS apparently can fine you for not having health insurance, since Congress apparently sees fit to criminalize it. Anyone care to have any thoughts on this?
