Incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune said “all the options” are on the table to get President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks through the confirmation process amid concern that some appointees won’t receive enough votes to be confirmed.
Trump in recent days announced his choices for key government positions, from Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence to Matt Gaetz as attorney general and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Health and Human Services secretary.
Thune (R-SD) told Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier on Thursday on “Special Report” that Senate Republicans are going to work with Trump to “see that he gets his team installed as quickly as possible so he can implement his agenda.”
“All these people have a process that they have to go through. All these nominees are — it’s a — you know, advice and consent. That’s the Senate’s constitutional role when it comes to confirmation of nominations to the executive branch of the government. And we take that role seriously,” he said. “But we also are not going to allow the Democrats to obstruct or block President Trump and the will of the American people.”

Maybe but something tells me he is lying.
Politics is the ultimate “Art of the Deal”. Everyone is for sale, it’s just a matter of price...i.e. what they want in return.
Thune has a lot of penance to do, and he’s starting out right.
We shall see if his words match his actions.
He is playing games. NO TRUST. He and his lib buddy Cornyn plan to ruin Gaetz with Kevin McCarthy’s help through the baseless accusations in the so called report.
Thune has to be seen as accommodating and loyal, A conservative leader. Don’t you forget for a minute that he NEVER wanted Trump from 2015 on! He wanted Trump replaced with Mike Pence! Dan Scavino posted the tweet. Never forget. Not for one minute.
Let’s hope Trump has the leverage to bring the RINOs to heel for the next two years, but he’s going to need our help keeping the pressure on. Light’em up boys and keep those phones ringing.
>> I am going to give Thune the benefit of the doubt for now
>> Thune has a lot of penance to do, and he’s starting out right
Agree with both of your sensible comments.
It sounds like an answer I would give my wife when she wants to go on vacation to somewhere I dont like :)
If I liked it, I would just say “Yes, we are going”
Which happens eventually anyway :)
This guy, I don’t know,
If they have 50 votes to recess, they have 50 votes to confirm. I believe they will all be confirmed. It’s possible some withdraw during the process.
“All these people have a process that they have to go through. All these nominees are — it's a — you know, advice and consent
/\
those are contradictory statements as this guy has the power to declare recess YESTERDAY and all appointees would already be in place.
no, hes a forked tongue backstabbing snake imho.
Thanks
In order to declare a recess, all Reps must vote in favor of it. Thune can’t be trusted.
Right... Turtle Jr. is a POS anti-Trumper; as with all RINO scum, it’s easy for them to spew forth what people want to hear, but in the end his actions are all that will matter. I sincerely hope that President Trump destroys this filth if he deviates one iota from implementing his mandate... the time for half measures is over.
Odds of confirmation for all of them are good.
There will be hearings. As long as the nominees don’t go nuts in the hearings, they will pass, and even with some Dem votes.
When nominations fail, it is usually because they withdraw from consideration. Gaetz won’t do that. The votes will have to be public. That’s why he will get confirmed. Not to mention Trump can refuse to sign the debt ceiling increase due in January unless he gets his nominees. They will never get enough votes to override that veto.
They’ll fold because they are running again. Trump isn’t.
“Well, it’s an option, but obviously, it takes, you know, you have to have all Republicans vote to recess as well. So the same Republicans that you mentioned that might have a problem voting for somebody under regular order probably also have a problem voting to put the Senate into recess,” the South Dakota native noted. “You have to have concurrence from the House. There’s a process. All this is a process. But I don’t think any of those things are necessarily off the table.”
Amen
a little party discipline is all he needs
Indeed
Thune is slippery but soon we’ll see if he really means what he says. Somebody is going to have to have a serious moment with Collins, Murkowski and Cornyn.
