snip Private Meier, who is seeking a medical discharge from the Army, was given counseling anyway. But he says he never opened up to his therapist, fearing that actions taken in the heat of battle might be disclosed to prosecutors. “How can you go and talk about wartime problems when you feel that if you mention anything wrong, you’re going to be prosecuted?” he said in an interview. He is not alone in his wariness. Many soldiers, lawyers and mental health workers say that the rules governing confidentiality of psychotherapist-patient relations in the military are porous. The rules breed suspicion...

Recently Jim Robinson posted two threads declaring Free Republic’s determination to see Conservatives elected and ousting Rino's from government. Jim and a great many Freepers believe that we need to take back control. But the RNC is not hearing us. Activism is called for NOW. 2010 is nearing and we need Conservative candidates to run. The time is ripe and people are ready for another 1994 type election. But we need to make the RNC hear us loud and clear. This is the Rino Free America Project. Get involved. Make them listen. Write a letter and MAIL it. Republican...

He says he killed a human being on his 27th birthday. His words are louder than the clatter of customers on this Veterans Day at Panera Bread in Oak Park Mall. But the 29-year-old Army veteran from Lenexa, with baby-face cheeks and crinkly eyes, tells it so matter-of-factly, so dead on bluntly, it sounds normal. He was pulling night-time guard duty in Iraq. A bullet whizzed past his head. Through the scope on his M-16, he found the shooter on top of a building nearly a mile away. Watched as the shooter popped his head above the railing and swung...

"...These soldiers were entrusted to carry fully automatic, military assault rifles when deployed to Afghanistan, where the shooter was about to be sent. But in America, these same soldiers are disarmed when on base. From the Associated Press: Soldiers at Fort Hood don't carry weapons unless they are doing training exercises...."

SALT LAKE CITY - A Utah soldier fatally shot at Fort Hood was proud to serve and felt keenly the responsibility of representing his nation and his family, his uncle said. Let me first apologize to Rush Limbaugh. Last week in explaining why NFL commissioner Roger Goodell needed to put an end to Limbaugh's latest publicity stunt, I attributed racially insensitive quotes to Limbaugh that I read in two Missouri newspapers, saw on CNN and confirmed through a Google search. Prior to posting the article, I never found a denial of these quotes by Limbaugh, and had no reason to believe those statements were not true. It was unfair to Limbaugh. And I regret that. I've commented on some of his earlier controversies. I've long been an admirer of his broadcasting...

Dear Freepers, I've never asked for prayers on FR, but I have to now. Would you please pray for my youngest daughter, who's 19? I am in tears because she was just diagnosed with a large nodule on her thyroid. I had mine removed to papillary cancer in '06, and I'm praying and hoping that she doesn't have to have hers removed as well. It tends to run in my family, my grandmother had hers removed too. She is a strong young woman, in college, and is a blessing to our family. She is scared for a variety of reasons...

I hope no one minds the topic of this thread. With the holidays coming up, I thought this might be of use to not just me, but all parents, grandparents, families etc.. A list of ideas from others, and this thread could be an EXCELLENT reference guide. As a new grandparent of a child less than 2 1/2 yrs old, I am looking for safe alternative toys and toy parts that do not originate in china. If the toddler puts it in his/her mouth, (aside from being big enough that he/she can't swallow it)...it needs to be a material that...

The Hillsboro, N.D., School Board has rules against students using alcohol, tobacco or drugs. Students can be kicked out of extracurricular activities for violating the no-smoking rule. Now, Leona is seeking a court order so she can go to the dance. Her parents point out that she's 18 and legally allowed to smoke in North Dakota.
