  • Going Galt Without Secession

    11/07/2012 9:28:21 PM PST · by FortWorthPatriot · 70 replies
I just posted this on Facebook a couple of minutes ago. There is some talk of secession amongst some of my fellow Texans there. I wanted to put my post here as well to get opinions on it. Thank you for your patience. It can be done. And we can “Go Galt” at the same time. The key to this is cutting off the east and west coast geographically while at the same time cutting off lines of trade and natural resources to the two coasts. As Lois stated, we need to split the country in half, literally. In order...
  • VANITY - Anyone Remember Michael Patrick McManus?

I was doing some web surfing on the Stolen Valor Act and was looking at articles about him when I ran across the link to the above obituary. I think this is him. Everything the description fits him perfectly (e.g., lived in Houston; studied Tibetan Buddhism; his "cherished friend" Alvin Chan) and the photo pretty much looks like him (minus the glasses, soul patch and goatee, of course). Does anyone know whether or not he really is dead? I couldn't find anything else on the web except this obituary. If he really has died, you would think that all the...

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, arguably the two most famous newspaper reporters in American history, did something on Sunday they haven't done in 36 years: They shared a byline in the Washington Post. Woodward and Bernstein, who are on a mini-publicity tour surrounding the 40th anniversary of the Watergate break-ins, published a joint opinion essay for the Post's Outlook section about what they've learned since first reporting on the scandal: President Richard Nixon, who was forced to resign in the wake of Watergate, was "far worse than we thought."

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – A man was found dead inside a tent at the Occupy Denton campsite on the University of North Texas campus Saturday afternoon, spokesman Buddy Price said. University spokeswoman Deborah Leliaert said someone called police at 4:45 p.m. to report the body. Price said UNT Police has launched an investigation into the death. He did not have the man’s name or age and would not say whether he was a UNT student, only describing him as a white male. Before referring CBS 11 to UNT Police, Denton Police spokesman Lenn Carter said in an email that the man...

Gabriel Elizondo, a Brazil-based correspondent for Al Jazeera, is in the middle of a road trip across the United States, talking to people about the effects of 9/11 on American life. In Texas, Elizondo says he just experienced part of the impact firsthand. "Ten miles," he wrote Sunday in a blog post. "That's how deep I got into Texas before being asked to leave." On Friday, Elizondo says, he decided to stop at a high school football game in Booker, Texas, near the Oklahoma border. "What better a setting to immerse one's self into Texas rural life than high school...

Martin Bashir, it seems, is not a fan of Sarah Palin. And during his MSNBC show and “Clear the Air” segment, he went looking for a way to roast the possible 2012 candidate who is now on a national bus tour. So what tool did he use to blast the woman even many of her detractors see as patriotic? The American flag. According to Bashir, Palin could be breaking the law by displaying the American flag on her tour bus: Here’s what he had to say: "In fact, the whole thing could be in breach of a federal law because...

TOKYO — Japan was rattled by a strong aftershock and tsunami warning Thursday night nearly a month after a devastating earthquake and tsunami flattened the northeastern coast. The Japan meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning for a wave of up to one meter (3.2 feet). The warning was issued for a coastal area already torn apart by last month's tsunami.. Japan's NHK public television said those in areas where the tsunami warnings were issued should evacuate to higher ground.

Ninety-five-year-old Leeland Davidson discovered recently that he's not a U.S. citizen, despite living nearly 100 years in the country and serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Davidson, from Centralia, Washington, told KOMO News that he discovered he wasn't a U.S. citizen when he was turned down for an enhanced driver's license he needed for a trip to Canada to visit relatives. "We always figured because he was born to U.S. parents he's automatically a U.S. citizen," said Davidson's daughter, Rose Schoolcroft. Davidson was born in British Columbia in 1916. He checked up on his citizenship before joining the Navy...
  • Are debtors prisons coming back?

The United States does not have debtors prisons, per se -- they effectively were outlawed in 1833 -- but you can still go to jail for failure to pay your debts. Surprised? You wouldn't be if you thought about it for a bit. Judges occasionally jail a parent who fails to pay court-ordered child support, but only after going to considerable effort to extract the money in other ways, and usually only if the courts believe the parent can afford to pay. And there are still "pay the fine or …" judgments, although community service in lieu of slammer time...
  • Female police chief in Mexico may seek U.S. asylum

A 20-year-old college student hired as police chief of a Mexican border town is reportedly seeking asylum in the United States. Marisol Valles Garcia "received death threats from a criminal group that wanted to force her to work for them," a relative told AFP news service on Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity. She "went to the United States along with two relatives and will seek asylum." Andres Morales, a spokesman for the town of Praxedis G. Guerrero, said Valles Garcia was expected back at work on Monday after taking some time off to deal with family matters. "Right now,...

Iran objects to the logo for the 2012 London Olympics, contending it is racist because it resembles the word ''Zion.'' The secretary general of Iran's National Olympic Committee says Iran sent a letter to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge, warning of a possible boycott of the games. The letter claims the 2012 logo spells out ''Zion,'' a biblical term widely recognized to refer to the city of Jerusalem. In comments carried by the official IRNA news agency Monday, secretary general Bahram Afsharzadeh says the letter urges other Muslim states to oppose the ''racist logo.''
  • Tuscon firefighter refused to respond to shootings because he was ‘distraught’

Here's one very odd and overlooked twist in the exhaustively chronicled shooting at a public event for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords last month: One of the Tucson firemen summoned to the scene refused to go, on political grounds. The emergency worker in question, a 28-year fire department veteran named Mark Ekstrum, retired a few hours afterward, according to the Arizona Daily Star. The paper reports that in the service logs for Ekstrum's unit, one of his supervisors noted that "he mentioned something about 'political bantering' and he did not want to be part of it" after the call went out for...
  • Civility - Children's Play Calls for Beheading of Sarah Palin

    Examiner.com ^ | January 29th, 2011 | Anthony Martin
Less than a month after the Leftwing in America blamed conservatives for the Tucson shooting and demanded 'civility' in political discourse, a children's play in Montana called for the beheading of Sarah Palin. The play, which was presented at the Missoula Children's Theater in Missoula, Montana on January 23, was a production of Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Mikado.' But the play's director decided at the last minute to add a bit of 'humor' to the production by including a scene which called for the beheading of Sarah Palin. Although the production was presented before a predominantly liberal crowd, the scene...

Chris Matthews on Thursday actually showed a graphic image of the Capitol building with a red target on it and crosshairs in the foreground. This hypocritically occurred moments before a lengthy segment on "Hardball" about violent rhetoric wherein he complained about "over-the-top references to guns all the time by people like Sarah Palin" (video follows with transcript and commentary) CHRIS MATTHEWS: Leading off tonight: Words and actions. Are people affected by what they hear? If not, why do people speak? If the messages people get day after day have no effect on their behavior, why do big corporations spend millions...

State Comptroller Alan Hevesi publicly apologized Thursday for a “beyond dumb” remark about “putting a bullet between the president’s eyes.” Hevesi hastily called a mea culpa press conference hours after putting his foot in his mouth at the Queens College commencement. The Queens College media relations office said it had videotaped the commencement but could not immediately provide a copy of the tape or a transcript. At the press conference, a contrite Hevesi repeated what he recalled saying in the speech. The comptroller said he was merely trying to convey that Sen. Charles Schumer has strength and courage to stand...
