State Comptroller Alan Hevesi publicly apologized Thursday for a beyond dumb remark about putting a bullet between the presidents eyes.
Hevesi hastily called a mea culpa press conference hours after putting his foot in his mouth at the Queens College commencement.
The Queens College media relations office said it had videotaped the commencement but could not immediately provide a copy of the tape or a transcript. At the press conference, a contrite Hevesi repeated what he recalled saying in the speech. The comptroller said he was merely trying to convey that Sen. Charles Schumer has strength and courage to stand up to the president.
I apologize to the president of the United States as well as to Schumer, said Hevesi. I am not a person of violence.
I am apologizing as abjectly as I can. There is no excuse for it. It was beyond dumb.
Hevesi said he hadnt been in touch with the White House but he hoped his apology reached President Bush.
Hevesi also called his comments remarkably stupid and incredibly moronic.
I do speak extemporaneously, he said. And Ive never said anything like this.
Another fine example of liberal kindness.
I hope secret service paid him a visit to investigate.
Another “unexpected” comment from yet another peace and love dem huh?
Oh, now he’s apologizing. huh
Just like cdemocRAT cowards...only when they get caught to they do that.
Is he black?
Because I remember Charles Barron (NYC Dem) said he’d like to go down the street and slap white people, but it was ok because (paraphrased by memory) black people just speak in hyperbole but white people are mean and really mean it.
This polite political speech is dumb. I know what Barron meant, and I know what Havesi meant. I’m not stupid enough not to understand a metaphor. The founders never meant for anyone to be afraid to speak politically.
Of course, they really DID used to shoot each other then (remember Hamilton and Burr) but that’s not the point.
Liberal hypocrisy at its finest.
I doubt it. He ended up resigning his office as part of a plea deal for defrauding the government. Then in October of 2010, he was arrested on another felony charge having to do with corruption charges related to a pay-to-play state pension fund scheme. He copped a plea. Here's the link to the NY Post story:
Anybody remember Hevesi’s vitriolic remark from 2006 about putting a cartridge between President Bush's eyes?
I would say it’s a career ending statement. Has he resigned? If not, then fire or impeach him. It’s illegal to make that kind of threat.

Crossfire was a current events debate television program that aired from 1982 to 2005 on CNN.
I remember that show!!
