Do you own the land?? Generally, in takings the owner is allowed to remove items of personal property, etc. and this would include trees. Why don't you just log them off?
One word: corruption. There is too much money in eminent domain, too many kickbacks and bribes. Why should a developer pay full price when he can grease a politician and get a bargain?
There is NO developer for where Kelo's home and the others remain. The city has no plans whatsoever for this land, other than to clear out those who live there. Confused? Call Ruth Bader Ginsburg, she will explain.
If you don't think that entire web site is all about the same thing the amnesty legislation is about, I can't help you. It advocates expediting the flow of people and goods across the N. American borders, but does NOTHING to keep us from being over run by illegals here to take advantage of a free ride. Which pretty much sums up the proposed legislation. That March 2005 summit meeting was essentially a treaty, but has the Senate vetted it?
So much for a democratic process. Some of the SPP initiatives make sense, some are a nightmare. On the whole, I would classify this as Scary, with a capital S.
According to this study: http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/API_GasTaxNovember2004Final.PDF Connecticut has the 4th highest total state gas taxes in the nation, 32.5 cents/gal., not including the Federal cut, which takes it over 50 cents. This of course does not seem to bother Blumenthal, who is simply running a shakedown racket to squeeze a few little guys in order to garner some PR. He is a disgrace. A Punk with a capital P.
What's next? Will Yale exhume dead Nazis for admission or maybe correspondence courses for Gitmo detainees? Or perhaps the Neville Chamberlain chair of history?</p>
The intro. of this article , while correct, is misleading. It is far more than 6 killed and 50 injured in one solitary Chinese protest over trampled property rights. Apparently, hundreds [if not thousands] die in clashes with police each year in China, where local corrupt bureaucrats seize property arbitrarily, just like they do here. A large percentage of the violent rioting in that country revolves around this issue.
