PHOENIX (Reuters) - Arizona Republican Governor Jan Brewer, in yet another clash with the White House, issued an order on Wednesday barring illegal immigrants who qualify for temporary legal status in the United States from receiving any state or local public benefits. The action was a response to relaxed deportation rules issued by the Obama administration on Wednesday. Brewer, whose state has been at the center of the country's immigration debate, issued an executive order denying state or local benefits to immigrants applying under the new federal immigration rules. The order would bar them from obtaining an Arizona driver's license...

If tax time weren't painful enough, some Minnesotans are now victims of tax identity fraud -- and the number of scams is exploding nationwide. In Brooklyn Park, Jason Bennett and his wife found out the hard way--when they went to file their return they found out someone had already done it for them. The Bennetts say they're owed about a $2,400 dollar tax refund this year. "It was money that we were planning on to pay some bills," Jason explains... ...Jason went to the IRS website and filled out an affidavit (Form 14039) to try to fix the situation. Then...

On France’s TF1 in early May, Smith explained why he supported the idea of paying higher taxes, saying, "I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here -- I'm a black man who didn't go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist. So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing."...

Police appeal for help over true identity of 'fraudster, 52, who pretended to be in NASA, the Navy and the CIA' Some may have known Roy Antigua as a CIA agent, a member of NASA or even a doctor - but all the police can be sure of is that he's a fake. Officers in New Port Richey, Florida are appealing for the public's help after they unearthed a startling cache of fake ID cards and uniforms at Antigua's home - and want to know if he has ever posed in a position of authority. They found U.S. military medals,...

my mind and local news | today | me
All sorts of whackos were in my sleepy little town of Cannon Falls today. The area he was speaking in was surrounded by school buses to hide him from the crowds. Hillsides were guarded by police and secret service. Only way to see him was if you had one of the tickets given out yesterday. Interesting thing about the tickets was that there was supposed to be 500 for the locals to get-first come, first served. The local news said that about 120 were handed out before the crowds were turned away. Wonder what happened to the extra tickets? Anyways,...

Many months ago my son came home from school with information on a school trip. It was through the Smithsonian institute and our local high school. A group trip to Washington D.C. to see the sites and witness the inauguration. Although this was long before the election, I figured it would be good for my son as well as some great father/son time, to witness the peaceful transfer of power, irregardless of who won, that our great nation is so well known and envied for. After the election,I realized that there would be some of the extremist there. It became...

Flooding in the Midwest has swelled rivers and submerged roads and rails, halting or delaying shipments of food, fuel and other goods. Manufacturers also have been forced to suspend production of everything from oatmeal to pork products. At the earliest, barge, road and rail traffic will get back to normal next week. But companies are focused on getting through the weekend, when at least one river is expected to crest at nearly 32 feet, making it possible that the transportation snags could drag on. Union Pacific Corp., the nation's biggest freight railroad, currently has six mainline tracks out of service...

The Democrats are at it again. An e-mail that they are sending out is encouraging people to claim that Edwards won tonights debate. Letters to the editor, on line polls, etc. They are stacking the deck in their favor before the debates even begin. The following is the letter: Dear Dan Zachary, An "online coup d'etat." That's how CBS News described your efforts after the debate last Thursday. John Kerry did his part with a powerful performance that showed America they can expect strong and principled leadership when he is our commander-in-chief. But it was your efforts that kept the...

I saw an item that got me researching and I need some help. It was a history of the VVAW that Kerry was involved in and was published in 1999. In the article it mentions connections to a lot of Communist groups. "Everything from the R.U.(Revolutionary Union),R.S.B (Revolutionary Student Brigade),Venceremos, October League, S.W.P.(Sociallist Workers' Party), CPUSA (Communist Party United States of America) and last but not least, the one, the only, the RCP (Revolutionary Communist Party)." link This got me to research further to find more of these claims here and also here. I would like to see more linking of...

I returned from Washington, D.C., late Saturday night after a whirlwind trip in which I drove 800 miles within a twenty-four hour period. I joined other patriots in our nation's capitol as it came under renewed assault from the anti-American, communist-backed group known as A.N.S.W.E.R. Now why on earth would I drive so far, leaving the comforts of my home, simply to be verbally assaulted by a group of left-wing wackos? The answer is simple: I made this trip to show my support for our President, our troops, and our country. I also made this trip to show the nation...

NEW YORK -- After 14 years on the bench, Judge Victor Barron spoke with authority at a sentencing last year when he declared, "No one is above the law." The sentencing, after all, was his own. The silver-haired Brooklyn judge was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs to begin a three- to nine-year prison term for taking thousands of dollars in bribes -- perhaps the most troubling scene so far in a judicial corruption scandal that one watchdog group calls the worst in the nation.
