Hunter said his church prayed for Herzog's family, his colleagues and the community at large. Race, he said, had nothing to do with the shooting. That sentiment was echoed by James Kelly, president of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, and Nate Miles of the African American Agenda.

Actually, witnesses on the scene reported that Ronald Matthews was shouting and yelling about race and racial issues as he was running around in the street and pounding on cars and a metro bus with his fists.

Last year he put a female officer from a neighboring town in the hospital after pumelling her with his fists. On that occasion, it took seven officers to subdue him after pepper spray had no effect on him. He's your basic out of control crack addict who goes berzerk after smoking the stuff. He had been released early from prision just 11 days prior to Herzog's murder.

If deporting the killer's family is legally a no-go, the next best thing would be to pass legislation making it a criminal offence to recieve payment for one's relatives terrorist actions. The punishment for that could be deportation after paying a fine in the amount of the payment.

If Hillary is ever president, there will be a hot civil war within the first term.

And Hillary would be the politition in Washington most likely to order that all the "domestic terrorists" who opposed her be rounded up and sent to "detention" camps.

don't know if I could shoot a 22 rifle at close range like that in the dark and be able to hit anything with accuracy. With a .22 you have to shoot for the head to do any damage, thick leather jackets could stop / deflect those bullets

Your kidding, right? A .22 rifle would be the easiest thing in the world to hit with in that circumstance, though it would be much more difficult to retain in a struggle if your opponent got hold of it. As for penetration, a .22 will penitrate as much or more than your average service caliber hollow point ammo -- about ten inches from a pistol, and over 12 from a rifle.

The Senate, today, is in the hands of the Devilcrats because of one libertarian canidate, Gordon Beeman. He stole the election away from Slade Gordon who was a solidly, if not perfectly, conservative Republican and gave it to Maria Cant(vote)well. He lost by less than 5000 votes. Thanks to Mr. Beeman, Jumpin' Jim Jefferds had a reason to abandon the Republican party because he thought he could find an advantage that would have been non-existant with one more Republican senator. Thanks to him, President Bush feels like he has to move to the center, politically because he has to deal with a Democratic Senate. Thanks to him a conservative adgenda has been thwarted in the Senate. Thanks to him, we are less free today than we would have been otherwise. So much for standing on principal.

The problem is that, even while the U.S. population has grown significantly, the number of beds in secure mental health facilities has shrunk from a high of over 600,000 beds to somewhere between 50 and 60 thousand. That's why there are so many slobering, incoherent crazies panhandling on the street corners of your city.

Wow! "Neo-Puritanical Liberalism." You really sum up the nature of the modern left in a most descriptive way. You mind if I use that?

I've thought for a long time, that the politically correct, eviro-socialists were really acting out of quasi religious motivations. Especially these bubble-brained 20 somethings that are "into saving the environment". People need to feel like they are part of something larger than themselves and since religion is now "dumb", "working to protect the environment" and for "Social Justice" have taken their place. The amazing thing is that they think they are the tolarant ones. Sheesh!

This is ported and has pretty soft grips, which I hope will help. At 19 oz, it will probably hurt. I haven't shot it yet. Ordered it last Saturday but will still have the usual 10 day wait when it reaches the store. It's a Taurus 617T with a 7 rd cyl.

Might I suggest some Remington or Winchester or even Federal 158gr +p lead semi-wadcutter hollow points? This is refered to as the FBI load, as it was the standard round with the Famous But Ignorant until they moved to autoloaders. It worked well.

Out of a two inch barrel, there is little to be gained by using full power 357 Mag loads except punishing recoil and muzzle blast (IMHO). With porting, the fireball from Magnum loads should be spectacular in low light conditions to say the least. Most of the extra power of the Magnum load is wasted, as some of the powder charge hasn't finished burning by the time the bullet has left the barrel. Also, the velocity is so much lower than with 4" and longer handguns that the bullets don't expand reliably, as they are designed to work at greater speeds.

One piece of advice you probably don't need: don't ever fire a ported handgun with your face over the ports, or you'll get a nasty suprise. No shooting from the hip with that bad boy or your face will get scorched. Try firing it with a piece of paper above the barrel, and you'll see what I mean.

    Nice piece, by the way.

"America is not a two party system, too many people think we are. If we were, then there would have never been a Republican Party, it was a third party at one time."

I don't mean to be a jerk, but you're wrong about the Rebuplican Party ever being a "third" party.

The Whig party had already suffered a nearly complete collapse by the time the Republican party was formed in 1854. The Republican party, which had it's roots in the Abolitionist movement, stepped into a huge power vacumn that allowed it to gain immediate traction. Lincoln was only the second presidential canidate nominated by the party when he was elected in 1860.

The difference today, is that neither the Dems or the Pubs are anywhere near collapse and that is what it would take for another party to come into any sort of significance in a national, political sense. Until one of the two parties is abandonded by the vast majority of its constituencies, this is not going to happen, no matter what the Libertarians or Constitution party may dream about their chances; broad public support for them is simply non-existent. Third parties can only act as spoilers, taking votes from the party that most closely shares their ideals.

The Republican party exploded into power out of an intense national debate (slavery) and a wholesale abandonment of the Whig party, but in reality that event was more than 40 years in the making as the Abolitionists' swayed common public opinion in the North against slavery. It was the sort of sea change in public sentiment and view point doesn't happen overnight, but over time. That's the way change takes place a democratic society. Democratic government flows from the opinions and beliefs of the voters. If you want to change Government, you have to change those beliefs. Conservatives have lost ground because we've lost the ability to convince the general public that what we believe is right.

This is why CFR is so damaging. We've lost the institutions that sway public sentiment, and CFR silences us, but not those liberal institutions. Instead of trying to reconstitute the conservative party, we need to be taking the battle to the court of public opinion... the street corners, the press, the churches and temples. We need to be incouraging our conservative young people to pursue careers in journalism. We need to be buying news papers, television stations and networks; in plain speach, we have to get our message out. If we move the public to the right, so goes the government. If we don't, it won't matter because in the end the American people will get what they want.

Please don't get me wrong. I ascripe to the values and beliefs of the Constitution party and to a lesser extent the Libertarians. This country has strayed far from it's Constititional moorings and we've lost precious freedoms, but we've got to play the game by the rules that exist if we don't want to be irrelevant. The primary rule is that you've got to get the majority people to agree with you in the framework of our two party system. In the entire history of our nation, there has never been more than two political parties sharing power and that is not going to change, for better or worse.

    God love you

Where does the DNC get all their money? If unions can't give, special interest groups can't give, businesses can't give....where will they get THEIR money?

Unions are exempted from the advertising restrictions, so they don't need to give their soft money directly. They can run all the adds they want, but conservative groups can't do either.

I just emailed my congress critter (the vermin). Don't let up on the letters and calls even though it passed. There's still the conference report to vote on. Here's a copy of the note I just fired off:

    Dear Representative Inslee,

I’m writing to express my great dismay and disappointment in finding
that you voted for the Shays-Meehan bill. It's an assault on the First
Amendment of the highest order. No matter how you stretch the Constitution,
it can never be construed to allow the muzzling of Americans about the
voting records of their elected officials through letters, publications and
the media. If the Sierra Club wants to tell me about legislation that you
support or have voted for, even the week of an election, they have the right
to present their message and I have a right to know and hear about it, even
if I dissagree. The same is true concerning the AARP, the NRA, my local PTA,
or any other group or person. Shays-Meehan limits the free expression of
political thought, exactly the kind of speech the Framers intended to protect.

King George arrested, as dissenters, people for pamphleteering about the
abuses of the crown in order to protect his power. How is this bill any
    different?

    This can not stand.

I've never been very politically active, but I promise that I'm going to be
knocking on a lot of doors come this election season, telling people about
how you voted and why it is so wrong.

    Respectfully,
    Chris Edstrom

Here's a general hint for Freeping polls.

The webmasters of some sites try to keep people from loading the poll. They do this in a few different ways. The obvious way is with a cookie that tells the server to disregard any multiple votes. So delete cookies between votes (if you haven't got them turned off).

Another way webmasters can disqualify you is by checking the "refering page". When you follow a link from to a new page, your browser tells the website the page you're coming from. When they see that 50% of the votes were refered from the same page (like FreeRepublic), they can toss them out. So copy the address to the clipboard, open a new page and past the address in.

Another commonly used way they can check is by logging IP addresses, so if you really want to beat any safeguards, you can log on and of to your ISP between posts. Now we're getting fanatical.

These three steps won't make it impossible for the webmaster to prevent multiple voting, but this should work most of the time.

Deleting cookies and pasting the address into a new window are the most important things to remember.

    Happy Freeping
