This is a new thread dedicated to conservative parents of children/teens "at risk". I noticed in my FReeping that there are a lot of other conservative parents like me dealing with children or teens that are socially "at risk". Yes, there are other web sites out there dedicated to this, however they tend to be liberally/socialistically slanted. They have a whinning "poor pitful me" attitude. As conservatives, from talking with many of you, we take a different attitude and require our children to have that same attitude. I FReep Mailed Jim Robinson to get his "blessing" on this thread. If...

update IBM will announce its next-generation mainframe Tuesday, sources said. The system, called the z990 and code-named T-Rex, will spearhead Big Blue's effort to ensure the lineage isn't doomed to extinction. The machine will come with 32 processors initially, with a 48-processor version by the end of 2003 and a 64-processor version in 2004, said Illuminata analyst Gordon Haff. By comparison, IBM's current top-end z900 mainframe, introduced in 2000, has 16 processors. In addition, the company is expected to announce that the mainframe can be subdivided into several independent partitions. Initially, the system will support as many as 15 partitions...

    Chicago Tribune ^ | 05/09/03 | Tribune staff reports
The Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning that former Gov. Jim Edgar will not run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Peter Fitzgerald. Tribune Political Editor Rick Pearson says Edgar is telling close associates he will announce his decision later today. Edgar, a Downstate Republican, is saying the timing is not right in his life to make the run. Edgar's decision follows a telephone call placed last month to the former governor by President Bush, urging him to run for Senate next year after Fitzgerald's surprise announcement that he would not seek re-election. Officials of the National...

WASHINGTON -- Thousands of families across the country have handed their children over to foster care or juvenile detention centers because they could find no other way to get mental health care for their offspring, according to a study issued Monday. An advance copy of the study by the General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, estimated that in 2001 alone, parents voluntarily surrendered custody of 12,700 children in the 19 states and 30 counties the GAO surveyed.

March 31, 2003 — Meigs Field is now out of service after the city cut into its runway. According to the city and the FAA, Mayor Daley has the authority to close Meigs, but many want to know why he chose to do it now-and in the middle of the night. Very few people knew what was about to happen when the heavy equipment rolled into Meigs Field Sunday night at about 11:30. The FAA wasn't even informed until 2 a.m. Monday, well after the hired crews had started carving four X's into Meigs runway. "I still can't believe it...
  • Illinois Shotgun-Ban Bill Passes Senate Committee

    03/27/2003 8:40:41 PM PST · by cherry_bomb88 · 150 replies · 2,173+ views
Senate Bill 1195 (SB 1195), sponsored by Illinois Democratic Sen. Antonio Munoz, bans any shotgun that has a bore of .50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 6-4 and now awaits a vote on the Senate floor. The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) says even if the clause imposing bore restrictions is fixed, SB 1195 bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. The USSA says that means any shotgun with choke tubes would be illegal....

BERLIN (Reuters) - No more Coca-Cola or Budweiser, no Marlboro, no American whiskey or even American Express cards -- a growing number of restaurants in Germany are taking everything American off their menus to protest the war in Iraq (news - web sites). Although the protests are mainly symbolic, waiters in dozens of bars and restaurants in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Bonn and other German cities are telling patrons, "Sorry, Coca-Cola is not available any more due to the current political situation." The boycotts appear to be part of a nascent worldwide movement. One Web site, www.consumers-against-war.de, calls for boycotts of...

Ten Things You Can Do To Stop The War On Iraq Global Exchange September 10, 2002 (updated November 12, 2002) This document is also available as a PDF (100kb) 1. Call or Fax the White House to express your opposition to an invasion of Iraq. The United States Congress has voted for going to war with Iraq, failing in its duty to represent a deeply divided American public. But there are still ways to stop this invasion. Contact the White House at 202-456-1111 (tel) or 202-456-2461 (fax). 2. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper saying why...

ABC Radio ~ Press Conference | 03/25/03 | Secretary Donald Rumsfeld
LMAO....When asked by a reporter about what some of the "military experts" were saying on the news...Rumsfeld responded (paraphrased) "this is a free country, I can't control what they say...now if this were Iraq, we could control it because they would be shot if they said something we didn't like" (remember his is the general feel of what he said, not his exact words) Rush Limbaugh's comment was "Rumsfeld Dreams of Shooting Press Corps in Briefing" LMAO....*sigh*....I think it's a vision we've all had!!!

This is a letter I wrote myself and post here in the hopes that it will be seen by even a few service members...I felt I had to do something to counter the media attention of the protesters, however small that something might be: Dear Any Service Member, I do not know who you are or where you come from. I know not if you have a spouse or children. I don’t know your age, the color of your hair or the color of your eyes. Yet I pray endlessly for your safety and wish you Godspeed in your task....

Ok...I've come to the conclusion these protesters are on crack...ABC News Chicago reported today that there was the smallest protest ever since the war started at the federal building in downtown Chicago...less than 100 protesters...yet still arrests were made as they blocked enterances and did not allow good hard-working Americans to get to their jobs. One protester interviewed said "we just feel our voices are not being heard and so we have to do whatever it takes, put our liberty on the line to be heard".. 'SCUSE ME???? If ya'd get your commie lazy butt off the streets and back...

To Bo-legged (if you come back under another name)....what was the question that war was supposed to be the answer to???? War is never an "answer"....it is a last resort...and we were forced here. I hope the country can become a little more unified after the discovery of the chemical plant and seeing how our troops were treated when captured. :( Pray for them, their families and all of our troops. As for me, the troops, our president and our leaders have all of my love, thoughts and prayers! Cherry
