This is a new thread dedicated to conservative parents of children/teens "at risk". I noticed in my FReeping that there are a lot of other conservative parents like me dealing with children or teens that are socially "at risk". Yes, there are other web sites out there dedicated to this, however they tend to be liberally/socialistically slanted. They have a whinning "poor pitful me" attitude. The Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning that former Gov. Jim Edgar will not run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Peter Fitzgerald. Tribune Political Editor Rick Pearson says Edgar is telling close associates he will announce his decision later today. Edgar, a Downstate Republican, is saying the timing is not right in his life to make the run. WASHINGTON -- Thousands of families across the country have handed their children over to foster care or juvenile detention centers because they could find no other way to get mental health care for their offspring, according to a study issued Monday. An advance copy of the study by the General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, estimated that in 2001 alone, parents voluntarily surrendered custody of 12,700 children in the 19 states and 30 counties the GAO surveyed.

Senate Bill 1195 (SB 1195), sponsored by Illinois Democratic Sen. Antonio Munoz, bans any shotgun that has a bore of .50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 6-4 and now awaits a vote on the Senate floor. The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) says even if the clause imposing bore restrictions is fixed, SB 1195 bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. The USSA says that means any shotgun with choke tubes would be illegal....

This is a letter I wrote myself and post here in the hopes that it will be seen by even a few service members...I felt I had to do something to counter the media attention of the protesters, however small that something might be: Dear Any Service Member, I do not know who you are or where you come from. Ok...I've come to the conclusion these protesters are on crack...ABC News Chicago reported today that there was the smallest protest ever since the war started at the federal building in downtown Chicago...less than 100 protesters...yet still arrests were made as they blocked enterances and did not allow good hard-working Americans to get to their jobs. One protester interviewed said "we just feel our voices are not being heard and so we have to do whatever it takes, put our liberty on the line to be heard".. 'SCUSE ME????
