President Trump might reconsider calling Coronavirus "The Chinese Virus", because it's just the latest Chinese viral pandemic -- by my count, the sixth in the past 103 years. This means China has been, in effect, a virus producing factory whose pandemics killed millions worldwide, and who remains a biological threat globally. Here is my list of the Six Chinese Viral Pandemics, two of which are in dispute, both from the H1N1 virus, the first based on a Chinese report of deaths in November 1917: Number First Year Name Origin Virus Died Remarks 1 1917 "Spanish Flu" northern China H1N1 around...

Trump's so-called "Muslim ban" from seven "Muslim majority" countries is a lot of MSM hooey, and here's why. Worldwide there are 50 "Muslim majority" countries, and 95% of all Muslims live in those "Muslim majority" countries. So, just counting countries, only 14% of Muslim majority countries are banned by Trump. 86% are not banned. Looking at populations, 13% of all Muslims live in the seven countries Trump banned, 87% are not banned. Of the seven banned: Iran, Sudan and Syria are US listed as state sponsors of terrorism, while Iraq, Libya, Yemen & Somalia are high on lists of countries...

Ten Neo-Confederate Myths (+one) "Secession was not all about slavery." In fact, a study of the earliest secessionists documents shows, when they bother to give reasons at all, their only major concern was to protect the institution of slavery. For example, four seceding states issued "Declarations of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify Secession from the Federal Union". These documents use words like "slavery" and "institution" over 100 times, words like "tax" and "tariff" only once (re: a tax on slaves), "usurpation" once (re: slavery in territories), "oppression" once (re: potential future restrictions on slavery). So secession wasn't just...

Has anyone else noticed that all three of our non-Romney Republican candidates for President grew up in Southern Pennsylvania? Does anyone suppose this is a historical coincidence? It's not. Unless you are some kind of history nut, you've never even heard the term "doughface Northerner", since it hasn't been politically current in 150 years. And if you have heard it, then you know it was an old term of mocking and scorn -- for Northerners who loved the ante-bellum South and supported the South's legal, ahem, "institutions". Indeed, the term itself, "doughface" was derisively coined by Southerners to describe their...

Looking at the original field of candidates, how conservative are these folks, really? Well, it's hard to measure governors -- Huntsman, Perry and Romney -- since they faced different legislatures. For example, even though Romney vetoed hundreds of Massachusetts Democrat run Legislature's bills, he signed others, most famously, Romney-care, which neither Perry's nor Huntsman's legislatures ever passed. But members of Congress can be measured statistically and compared, so here it is: Ron Paul votes more conservative than 99% of Republican Congressmen. Michelle Bachmann votes more conservative than 80% of Republican Congressmen. For comparison: Both John McCain and Bob Dole voted...

"Over 100 Beluga whales are trapped in water between ice floes in the Chukotka region of Russia's Far East..." "Their habitats are threatened by the oil industry, global warming and hunting, according to ecologists. Whales are often trapped in the Arctic ice but rarely in such numbers as in the incident off Chukotka."
