    I like the following from:

"Ministers of the Gospel are excluded [from serving as Visitors of the county Elementary Schools] to avoid jealousy from the other sects, were the public education committed to the ministers of a particular one; and with more reason than in the case of their exclusion from the legislative and executive functions." --Thomas Jefferson: Note to Elementary School Act, 1817. ME 17:419

"No religious reading, instruction or exercise, shall be prescribed or practiced [in the elementary schools] inconsistent with the tenets of any religious sect or denomination." --Thomas Jefferson: Elementary School Act, 1817. ME 17:425
  • What's bigger threat to freedom: Islamic fundies or the ACLU? (I say the ACLU)

How can the President get tough with the ACLU? Have they broken any laws? Have they broken the constitution? Have they made you mad because they support people who disagree with you? Probable! The ACLU does things people will hate and like. Supporting unpopular speech is unpopular and I disagree with most of the stuff the file lawsuits against, but I support their right to do it. This country does have the first amendment and it does they can do what they do, just the Free Republic does what it does. A lot of people disagree with the stuff said here, but that does not make us or them criminal, just different.

Did the ACLU say the Boy Scouts were a bad group? Or did they say that if the Boy Scouts, a good Christian group that teaches young men how to do many useful things, should not be sponsored by the government? The Boy Scouts are a good group. They are a Christian Group. If the Boy Scouts are tacitly supported by the government, then should a Muslim boy scout group be supported? How about an Atheist one? or a Jewish one? or a Hindu one? One is correct that the USA is about 85% Christian, but that could change. There are over 1 billion Muslims and over 1 billion atheists in the world. There is about 1 billion Hindus. Hey, some of them could move here and want to have a Muslim boy scout group at the local school. Would you like that? There already is large Muslim population here. Why wouldn't continue to grow? There is a lot of Hindus here. Why not a Hindu boy scout group at the local school?

Interesting Idea. Repeal the first amendment! Is that what you want!?! State Sponsored Religion? Wow!! I guess that would solve this problem likety split. The ACLU would no longer have a leg to stand on to protect unpopular speech. Man those bastards! They want people that say stuff nobody likes, ( like I am not a Christian, how dare they ) to be heard. You are so right! I want to end free speech and have the Amish to mandate their religion to the rest of us ASAP.
