Settlers in New England highlighted the conflict between self-preservation and the selfless sharing of the Gospel. Gospel-motivated settlers wanted to bless the native inhabitants, both physically and spiritually. Unfortunately, other settlers viewed natives as an unpredictable danger, as sometimes they would kidnap women and children, or steal from farms.
