On the morning of September 12, 2023, a bird hunter was after upland game in a shelter belt in Montana, about 15 miles south of Choteau. Suddenly, a large grizzly bear burst out of the brush and weeds, charging directly at the hunter full tilt.Bird hunters tend to be on full alert when expecting to jump-shoot birds out of cover. Your senses and reflexes are on a razor’s edge. You have an appendage (finger or thumb) on the safety. You stay alert to any movement or noise, anticipating a bird might rocket out. The shotgun has a round chambered and...

What if you’re in an emergency situation? And you're out of shotgun slugs the only shells available are cheap birdshot shells. Here’s a quick survival hack that allows you to turn that bird shot shell into a slug capable of taking down bigger game. The hack is quite simple all you need to do is use a pocket knife and cut around the wadding area, but don’t cut all the way through. What happens is when the shell is fired, the full frontal portion of the shotgun shell hull, shot and the wad becomes a fearsome projectile. How many out...

Dogs are man's best friend. Except, you know, when they're shooting a gun at you. And strangely enough, that's what really happened to a hapless dog owner in Brigham City, Utah. The man in question--a 46-year-old hunting enthusiast who is not named in local news reports on the incident--got a behind-full of birdshot courtesy of his loyal canine companion when he was out duck hunting over the weekend.

A question for the White House press corps: Who the hell do you think you are? Seriously. Exactly how egomaniacal are you people? The question is spurred by your conduct the other day over this Dick Cheney matter. The vice president was involved in a hunting accident and all of a sudden it wasn’t about him or what happened, it was how you weren’t notified. Like the world revolves around you. And you started acting like idiots. Juvenile, arrogant, antagonistic idiots. It was a shameful spectacle that further alienated regular Americans and showed, in the view of many, your bias...

AP SCIENCE WRITER WASHINGTON -- Despite the heart problem of the man wounded by Vice President Dick Cheney, doctors say removing the shotgun pellet from his chest probably won't be necessary - and digging it out could do more harm than good. It's not unusual to live with shrapnel or other foreign objects in the body, even the heart, and specialists said it's likely the pellet will scar over rapidly without causing further problems for Texas lawyer Harry Whittington. Hospital officials in Corpus Christi announced Tuesday that Whittington had suffered a "minor heart attack" and was returned to the intensive...

TAMPA - Gov. Jeb Bush took a rare opportunity to one-up late night talk show hosts Monday when he appeared at the Florida State Fair Governor's Day Luncheon. Like other guests, the governor was given a "No Farmers, No Food" sticker from the Florida Farm Bureau. Opening his remarks before the 1,000 or so guests gathered, Bush made a show of placing the sticker on his chest. The sticker was bright orange - like a hunting jacket. "I'm a little concerned that Dick Cheney is going to walk in," he quipped.
