The Saturday Evening Post Enter the "No Spin Zone" An Interview w/ Bill O'Reilly by Patrick Perry In the No Spin Zone, you can watch those charlatans stammer and the spinners slip out in shame,” television anchor Bill O’Reilly writes in his New York Times bestseller The No Spin Zone. “In the No Spin Zone, rationalizations are scorned, lies are rejected, and equivocations are mocked. It’s a place where quite a few smirks have turned to frowns. To anybody who uses power and fame to exploit the less powerful, the Zone is a very dangerous place. On the other side,...

Your parents lied to you: Sometimes the bad guys do win. Now that the Fox News Channel has won the battle for cable news supremacy by breezing past MSNBC and CNN in the ratings, it's time to review how it made such a remarkable leap. To do so sheds new light on the state of cable news -- which isn't good. For several years, the industry has toyed with abandoning newscasts in favor of nightly lineups crammed with clamorous political crossfire and sleepy-eyed sit-downs with stars. Not surprisingly, none of this seems to bother viewers. Who cares how many nukes...

Rush Limbaugh lambastes "environmental wackos" and "feminazis" from his "Excellence in Broadcasting Network"; Bill O'Reilly thunders outrage from his "No-Spin Zone"; and one in five Americans call it getting their daily dose of news, according to a recent survey. The poll examined news media preferences, and found that 22% of those surveyed said they get their news every day from talk radio programs. That figure is double what it was only four years ago, according to the Gallup Poll's Tuesday Briefing, released last week. "The growing trend of news in this country is interpretation ahead of the facts, of talk...

Network Threatens Former Homosexual with Lawsuit Talk-Show Host Bill O'Reilly Concerned About Rebuttal from 'Religious Fanatic' By Allie Martin and Jody Brown January 3, 2003 (AgapePress) - Fox News has threatened to sue a former homosexual who is now a Christian who engaged talk-show host Bill O'Reilly in a heated exchange on The O'Reilly Factor in September. Stephen Bennett, a Christian recording artist who says it is possible for homosexuals to leave that lifestyle -- through a relationship with Jesus Christ -- is distributing an audio tape called "The O'Reilly Shocker." On the tape, Bennett responds to Bill O'Reilly's characterization...

This week Bill took his villain of the week segment one step further and named the top 10 villains of 2002. 1) James Ziglar and Blake Brown both of the INS — Brown, a former Seattle Chief in the INS, overruled the Border Patrol to allow John Lee Malvo, one of the alleged Beltway snipers, to enter the country. Former head of the INS Ziglar ran the agency poorly. 2) FBI Chief Robert Mueller — For his treatment of whistle blower agent Coleen Rowley. 3) The Vatican Curia — For their handling of the Catholic Church sex scandal. 4)...

Ashamed of the Red, White & Blue Award First Place Phil Donahue: “Let me tell you what is impressive. You’re not wearing a flag. Well, I don’t want to damn you with my praise, but I say hip-hip-hooray for that, and I think you gave the right answer when you spoke at Northwestern University....” Tom Brokaw: “Right. I said, you know, I wear a flag in my heart, but I think if you wear a flag, it’s a suggestion somehow that you’re endorsing what the administration is doing at the time. And I don’t think journalists ought to be wearing...

NEW YORK (AP) _ A simmering feud between talk show host Bill O'Reilly and public television journalist Bill Moyers erupted on Wednesday after Moyers bought a newspaper advertisement to respond to what he called a "vicious personal attack." Moyers was referring to O'Reilly's syndicated column, published in the Daily News on Nov. 25, in which O'Reilly criticized him for "profiting from taxpayer money" by keeping the sales proceeds of videotapes of some programs he does for the tax-subsidized Public Broadcasting System.

THE DEATH OF NETWORK NEWS By Bill O’Reilly Playboy Magazine January 2003 When it comes to the current state of network news in this country, the words Crosby, Stills and Nash say it best: “It’s been a long time coming/Gonna be a long time gone.” With more Americans currently watching cable TV than the broadcast networks, the audiences for network news would have declined even if the news divisions were cutting edge. But cutting edge isn’t even close when discussing what ABC, CBS and NBC put on their nightly news casts. Switch on the television early evening and you will...

Article by the fellow who will be on O'Reilly tonight... THE MORALITY OF ABORTION By Rev. Mark Bigelow I believe that we progressive clergy must reshape the debate over abortion to focus on the moral and ethical dimensions of the decision to terminate a pregnancy. Too often we have referred to abortion as a tragic choice or a last resort when it is, in fact, a moral decision, made out of consideration for the needs of the family, the community, and the wider world in which we live. In the struggle to establish a legal right to abortion, abortion rights...

Bill O'Reilly, host of the cable news show The O'Reilly Factor, is an arrogant, controlling know-it-all. And that's exactly why he's so popular.

In the late 1980s, Bill O'Reilly was a second-tier correspondent at ABC News, scrapping to get airtime. He walked with the same swagger he has today, but back then no one took it seriously. A good day was when Peter Jennings handed him the trifling task of doing the 30-second afternoon news breaks.

Although the Left is trying to pretend otherwise, perhaps O'Reilly is the reason why Bush won last year's election and the Republicans did so well in this fall's elections. Liberals are wary of Bill O'Reilly's success with the O'Reilly Factor, and they should be. O'Reilly is influencing an important and massive demographic - TV watchers. Unlike most conservative pundits and politicians, O'Reilly appeals to all types of people with his honest, straight talk approach and slight independent streak. Consequently, he is tremendously popular. He is perhaps the first conservative TV pundit to attract as many viewers as some of...

WAS SUPER-PUNDIT Ann Coulter targeted by a journalistic hoax? On September 1, editor Bob Unger published an open letter telling Miss Coulter she was "fired" – that is, that he was dropping her syndicated column from his paper, the Centre Daily Times (CDT) of State College, Pennsylvania. Two days later, Unger told Editor & Publisher (E&P) that he was swamped with supportive e-mails. E&P reported Unger’s claim, apparently without checking its accuracy. Bill O’Reilly of Fox News likewise made no attempt to question or challenge anything Unger said in a September 18 interview. Despite the puppy-dog trust some interviewers have...

INDIANAPOLIS TV journalist Bill O’Reilly blasted federal immigration officials for releasing juvenile sniper suspect John Lee Malvo last year instead of deporting him back to Jamaica. In a speech Wednesday, O’Reilly reiterated allegations he aired on his FOX News program this week: that an Immigration and Naturalization Service agent altered an arrest report, allowing Malvo to be released after the Border Patrol had arrested him last year as an illegal alien. Malvo, 17, is the alleged accomplice of D.C. sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad. The pair has been arrested and charged with 13 shootings and 10 deaths in Maryland...

REMEMBER that regional newspaper editor who made a big show of "firing" super-pundit Ann Coulter last month? Well, the guy is now out of a job. The moral of the story: Don’t mess with Ann. Actually, Bob Unger did not fire Miss Coulter, because she never worked for him. He simply stopped running her nationally syndicated column. However, he did so in such an abusive and public manner, that people were forced to take notice. Unger announced his move with an open letter accusing Miss Coulter of "hate." "[W]e don’t welcome haters, Ann, and that’s what you are…," wrote Unger....

O'REILLY NOT SO RIGHT—Popular talk show host Bill O'Reilly says labeling someone as a "sinner" is contrary to American values. He has grown a large audience in recent years, including many Christians who like his conservative views on many key issues. But recently he has attacked those who say homosexuality is a sin—as the Bible does—and who would oppose such things as giving homosexuals the right to adopt children. He says the religious right has lost influence because they often "base their opinion on what they believe God wants." O'Reilly paralleled people who base their opinion on religious beliefs, and...

Bill O'Reilly has had several Florida media people and childrens advocates on his show! All of them have been very critical of Governor Bush and I can't remember any of them saying much favorable about the Governor! It appears O'Relly wants to see Governor Bush defeated! Am I wrong in this opinion?

William McGurn's assertion that "The O'Reilly Factor" colluded with the government of Saudi Arabia in the case of two young American women who were kidnapped by their Saudi father 17 years ago is both fallacious and irresponsible ("The Blowhard Zone," editorial page, Sept. 9). The Factor obtained the interview in London after demanding on-the-air that the Saudi government produce the women who had not been seen in public for almost two decades.
