A state trooper and several churchgoers have been seriously wounded in two shootouts during a gunman's rampage.
Panicked passengers ran for their lives as shots were fired at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky, about 11.40am, wounding the trooper.
The shooter then fled to nearby Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he was cornered by pursuing cops, Kentucky State Police said.
He was shot dead at the church and multiple parishioners were wounded by gunfire as they tried to escape. Whom they were shot by is still unclear.
The wounded deputy was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is in a stable condition, the Lexington Fire Department said.
'We were the first to the scene after the shooting, barely escaping a head-on crash from the shooter while he drove out of the airport the wrong way,' witness Gena Roland said.
'The trooper was thankfully awake and coherent when the ambulance arrived, albeit in a lot of pain.
'It was intense. There were many good samaritans that stopped and ran to the trooper. I think we had five of us down there before the cops and paramedics arrived on scene.'

I’m surprised we have yet to see an American version of “The Baader-Meinhof Gang”.
NOT even when going to church, but ESPECIALLY when going to church. This kind of surprise has got to like really suck.
We have Antifa. They’re bad. They’re nation wide.
No doubt there are many wannabes trying to get there.
This is why my church always has a police presence.....and why I ccw everywhere......especially at church.
No need to hire security guards if everyone packed.
It still hasn’t gotten to the point where they were with the Red Brigades and The Baader-Meinhof Gang in the 70s. Yet.
It’s time to declare antifa and anyone who supports them in any fashion at all a traitor to our republic and treat them as such with extreme prejudice and without mercy.
Did he expect it to be a sanctuary with the minister sheltering him and defying the troopers?

It sure looks like the Democrat leadership wants that. All of their rhetoric points to it.
Notice I said “leadership” there. Many older Democrat voters still think they’re in the party of Harry Truman. They just can’t see today’s reality.
