Bill Moyers buys newspaper ad to answer criticism from Fox News' Bill O'Reilly

NEW YORK (AP) _ A simmering feud between talk show host Bill O'Reilly and public television journalist Bill Moyers erupted on Wednesday after Moyers bought a newspaper advertisement to respond to what he called a "vicious personal attack."

Moyers was referring to O'Reilly's syndicated column, published in the Daily News on Nov. 25, in which O'Reilly criticized him for "profiting from taxpayer money" by keeping the sales proceeds of videotapes of some programs he does for the tax-subsidized Public Broadcasting System.

Ha. Bill Moyers is so in touch with American opinion that he believes that his editorial will reach O'Reilly's viewers in the other 49 states. What kind of coward is Moyers that he won't face O'Reilly directly on the Factor?

"Public television rarely funds my work _ I raise the money myself, from independent sources _ but when it does ... PBS owns all the distribution rights, the proceeds remain with public television and my share is minuscule," Moyers wrote in the ad, which appeared in Wednesday's editions of the News.

The tapes and books? Who profits from them? Moyers of course.

Moyers is a millionaire. He built most of this buy sucking on the teat of the publicly funded PBS. Ironically, he abhors capitalism.

More Election 2002 Analysis

Way back in the 1950's when I first tasted politics and journalism, Republicans briefly controlled the White House and Congress. With the exception of Joseph McCarthy and his vicious ilk, they were a reasonable lot, presided over by that giant war hero, Dwight Eisenhower, who was conservative by temperament and moderate in the use of power.

That brand of Republican is gone. And for the first time in the memory of anyone alive, the entire federal government — the Congress, the Executive, the Judiciary — is united behind a right-wing agenda for which George W. Bush believes he now has a mandate.

That mandate includes the power of the state to force pregnant women to give up control over their own lives.

It includes using the taxing power to transfer wealth from working people to the rich.

It includes giving corporations a free hand to eviscerate the environment and control the regulatory agencies meant to hold them accountable.

And it includes secrecy on a scale you cannot imagine. Above all, it means judges with a political agenda appointed for life. If you liked the Supreme Court that put George W. Bush in the White House, you will swoon over what's coming.

And if you like God in government, get ready for the Rapture. These folks don't even mind you referring to the GOP as the party of God. Why else would the new House Majority Leader say that the Almighty is using him to promote 'a Biblical worldview' in American politics?

So it is a heady time in Washington — a heady time for piety, profits, and military power, all joined at the hip by ideology and money.

Don't forget the money. It came pouring into this election, to both parties, from corporate America and others who expect the payback. Republicans outraised Democrats by $184 million dollars. And came up with the big prize — monopoly control of the American government, and the power of the state to turn their ideology into the law of the land. Quite a bargain at any price.

That's it for this week.

For NOW, I'm Bill Moyers.

-------------------------------------------------------

Gee, maybe people just object to using taxpayer dollars to fund this kind of sleazeball political smear-job.

I never read that before! An incredible ANTI-Bush, conservative, and republican piece. Now I'm angry this guy gets one cent of my tax money.

Here's an example of just one of Moyer's better sellers....remember PBS and the taxpayers paid for the production costs. PBS keeps the distribution rights and proceeds, Moyers keeps most of everything else. ~SIGH

"...Joseph McCarthy and his vicious ilk...

Joseph McCarthy was right. Their were and are communist in the State Department. The left is still angry someone pointed this fact out.

Moyers made a mint off of Joseph Campbell and the mythology thing. After Campbell's death Moyers went on to produce numerous shows that were broadcast on PBS dealing with themes found Canpbell's works. There were several: the series on the Old Testament, the series on Amazing Grace, and the series on poetry.

The left is always angry, the left is always in denial, the left hates TRUTH, HONOR, INTEGRITY, and most of all the left hates AMERICA.

Has thet rascal been drinkin' agin? Gotta get Billy away from the jug; ain't doin' nothin fer his credibility.

Yeah, some of his reasoning does seem a bit 'foggy'? How about this from the article.

Moyers said he did not call O'Reilly a warmonger in the speech last year. But he said the talk show host's passion is equaled "only by his stubborn, ignorant denial of complexity."

Denial of complexity?

Well in Moyers defense, O'Reilly is a Pit Bull once he starts biting on you that's it your history. I appreciate Bill O"Reilly's efforts on a lot of things but man he goes ape$hit for no reason sometimes. Either way Moyers is in for a Roasting if he bothers to come at all.
