Britain now arrests people for speech at industrial scale. At least 62,199 people were arrested for “communications offences” between 2021 and 2025 — roughly 34 a day. Campaign group Big Brother Watch compiled the figures from Freedom of Information replies covering 38 of 45 territorial forces. Seven forces refused or failed to supply full data. If those missing forces tracked the national average, the real total would sit closer to 73,000. One arrest for every 940 people in the country.
