Protecting the Fort Fort McCoy Feb 2, 2005 Congressman Ron Kind says closing Fort McCoy would be a mistake. He took that message straight to the top on Wednesday. Kind met with the Department of Defense to make the case to keep Fort McCoy open. It's on a list of bases that could be shut down by the government to save money. Kind says the numbers show that Fort McCoy is one of the best training sites in the country. The government has to make a decision by May 16th.
