Mayor Bill de Blasio rebuffed demands by Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for an instant release of all Rikers Island detainees due to increasingly dangerous conditions at the jail, refusing to “just open up the gates.” “That’s not going to happen,” de Blasio said Wednesday during his daily press briefing, held remotely from Queens Borough Hall. “I respect the Congress member and her colleagues who signed that letter, [but] couldn’t disagree with them more,” he added. “It’s not going to happen, it’s not the right way to handle things.” On Tuesday, AOC along with Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Nydia Velazquez...

The far-left Democrats forced out provisions to fund Israel’s Iron Dome from the continuing resolution that would keep the government funded and raise the debt ceiling, according to reports. According to Army Technology, “Iron Dome provides defence[sic] against short-range missiles and rockets which pose a threat to the civilian population,” such as those fired from Gaza earlier this year. Due to there not being enough votes to pass the CR as a result of pushback from far-left Democrats, a Politico reporter claimed that House Democrats were forced to remove the Iron Dome provisions to pass the measure. Before the provisions...

The designer's company racked up three open tax warrants in New York state and got into even deeper trouble with the Feds Designer Aurora James called her "Tax the Rich" dress for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a "powerful message" — but it’s not one she has taken to heart. The 37-year-old fashionista who made waves at the Met Gala with Democratic-Socialist AOC last week is a notorious tax deadbeat with unpaid debts dogging her in multiple states, records show. Most of luxe-living James’ arrears center on Cultural Brokerage Agency, an LLC she formed in 2011 to serve as the parent company...

WANTED: one honest, decent, middle-class politician who doesn’t want to be a rich celebrity. Just imagine Bronx-born, feminist Democratic Rep. Bella Abzug showing up to a $35,000-a-plate dinner in a dress that cost more than some people in her district made a year? And then staying for the pathetic vegan dinner to hobnob with the unimaginably wealthy celebrities and other “elites”? That’s what Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did at the Met Gala on Monday, sporting an Aurora James gown that declared: TAX THE RICH. “The medium is the message . . . BEFORE anybody starts wilding out,” the congresswoman wrote...

Vogue has released a fawning video of socialist firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her enormous glam squad revealing how they put together the now-infamous 'Tax the rich' dress for her controversial Met Gala appearance. AOC was coy about her controversial appearance at the ultra-elite Met Gala before DailyMail.com revealed that she and her boyfriend Riley Roberts had their $35,000-a-head tickets comped by the museum. However, this new video shows that Vogue and AOC were partners in the controversy. The magazine posted a 10-minute video late Thursday night documenting the Democratic congresswoman's preparations for fashion's big night out.

Democrats are ready to raise taxes. They want more revenue, in part to fund an out-of-this-world amount of new spending. Some simply want to soak the rich, as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., plainly signaled at the Met Gala by wearing a white dress with "TAX THE RICH" scrawled across it in red paint. While the public may be more receptive to the idea because of concerns over high budget deficits, let's not be naive -- many voters believe that these tax hikes won't hit them. There's so much wrong about this assumption. Writing for The Dispatch, the Manhattan Institute's Brian...

Washington -- How did the weekend that commemorated the 20th anniversary of 9/11 -- America's Pearl Harbor for the 21st century -- go for you? There were huge American flags draping the skyscrapers of northern Virginia. The streets below, however, were relatively deserted. Across the river, there was a more traditional scene. Groups of tourists were parading around the remaining statues of downtown Washington. The presence of these statues -- all to old white men -- strikes an incongruous chord with me. Why are they there? Have the elites holding forth in our nation's classrooms not ordered them banished? Have...

Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) tried to defend herself online after she was swarmed with criticism for wearing an emblazoned “Tax the Rich” dress to the Met Gala, where tables could reportedly cost more than $275,000 and individual tickets are priced at around $30,000. AOC scolded “haters” about the criticism and contended that going to the fancy event with rich elites was actually her just doing her job as a congresswoman in New York City. “And before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our...

A conservative group is asking the Office of Congressional Ethics to launch an investigation of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for accepting free tickets to Monday’s Met Gala, where she wore a custom gown that said “Tax the Rich.” The self-declared socialist congresswoman drew broad social media scorn for partying at the elite $35,000-per-ticket event while presenting herself as their rabble-rousing foe. Thomas Jones, founder of the American Accountability Foundation, wrote in an ethics complaint that he believes Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, broke House rules by accepting “an impermissible gift” of free tickets to attend the annual...

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to wear a white gown with “Tax the Rich” written across her back at the 2021 Met Gala, an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “Among the attendees also was congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who caused a bit of controversy for wearing a dress that said tax the rich. Some folks said it was inappropriate for a politician for her to even be there. Others said she’s in the right place if she...

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday reacted to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) sporting a designer dress with the message “Tax the Rich” across the back at Monday’s Met Gala. McCarthy questioned the legality of Ocasio-Cortez’s attendance of the expensive event but said it shows that the self-described “socialist Democrat” is the “leader of the Democratic Party.”

The left usually understands optics. They play the optics game far better than the right. But every now and then, their egos get the better of them and they end up making the worst possible optics moves imaginable. Case-in-point: Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attending the Met Gala with a dress that reads “Tax The Rich.” Of course, you won’t see any poor or homeless people in attendance. You won’t see many middle-class people for that matter unless they’re with the press or invited by a rich friend. The tickets to get into the exclusive event are $30,000 each. The dress AOC...
