Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who is always touted by the West as a peace partner for Israel, met on Wednesday with the man that has constantly called for Israel’s destruction. Abbas met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the Islamic summit held in Cairo, the PA-based WAFA news agency reported. Israel is preparing for the possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, the Reuters news agency reported Thursday. According to the report, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has instructed his ministers to draft proposals on how to cope with a nuclear Iran. The report was later denied by a senior Prime Minister's Office official, Israel Radio reported. TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is writing a letter to Pope Benedict, following an unprecedented letter to U.S. President George W. Bush earlier this month, a newspaper said on Thursday. "President Ahmadinjad's second letter is for Pope Benedict and will be sent in the next days," Jomhuri-ye Eslami newspaper, which is close to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, quoted unnamed sources as saying.
