Contrary to various media reports, "over 1,000" Arab security prisoners in Israeli jails are not hunger-striking. In fact, says Prison Service Commissioner Yaakov Ganot, only 570 prisoners are involved, "and what they're actually doing is refusing to receive today's meals - which is very different than a hunger-strike." Several reasons were given for the strike. Palestinian Prisoners Union Chairman Isa Kraka said that it was a response to yesterday's "wounding" of 18 prisoners in the Shikmah Prison in Ashkelon, and that they were striking in solidarity with them. Yesterday's rioting in the Shikmah prison broke out after a map of...

At least two Washington members of FreeRepublic (http://www.FreeRepublic.com) joined other Pacific Northwesterners in the latest of ongoing rallies to Support Our Troops. The third or fourth such held in the central traffic point of the bucolic town of Duvall, Washington (east of Woodinville, in turn east of Seattle), turnout was reduced from the 200+ who showed up in previous weeks by the return of the drizzle for which Seattle is so justly famous. But the weather didn't dampen spirits any, as the photos here will show.

Local conservatives are taking a page from the anti-war movement by putting out a television ad supporting American troops and the ouster of Saddam Hussein. Frustrated by pro-peace commercials featuring the likes of actors Martin Sheen and Susan Sarandon, Seattle talk-radio station KVI-AM (570) ponied up $5,700 and then raised more than $100,000 through a 10-hour radiothon Thursday for the TV-ad campaign. "The phones exploded," host John Carlson said moments before going on the air yesterday afternoon. "In less than 48 hours, we raised upwards of $118,000. We think we're going to go well beyond that because more than $100,000...

My local radio station, 570 KVI, has started a project to put a Pro Troops, Pro Bush, Anti Saddam, and Pro War tv commercial on our local TV stations. The radio station has pledged to pay the costs of making the commercial which is estimated at $5,700.00 and the radio hosts are asking donations from the audience to pay for the air time. This project was just made known to the audience this morning and their phones have been ringing off the hook with pledges. It is estimated we got at least $15,000.00 in pledges within the first 3 1/2...
